Session Notes - September 24, 2009 Session

This session marked the seventh week of NASPA Club #565's 2009-2010 season!

There were no games played in our Recreational Division this week.

In the Tournament session, we were joined by 5 tournament division players who played 28 games in which we scored 10,892 points for a 389.0 points per game average. Of the 40 recorded bingos we played, three were phonies that went unchallenged.

Ed Saunders was the big winner this week, going 5-1 with a positive 510 pt spread, 13 bingos, and a per game average of 450.67 pts per game.

We featured two regular contests this week

The first regular contest was the "O, I" Guess We'll Have A Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letters "O" and "I", in any order, somewhere within it. Travis Carlson scored 66 for GOOIEST, Karen Lundeen beat that with 74 for FLOSSIER, Loren Mitchel just kinda hung around with 77 pts for LOITERED, but Monique Kornell faked 'em all out with 107 pts for zerolith* and stole away with the $3.75 prize.

The second regular contest was the Them's Fightin' Words Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that is, or incorporates somewhere within it, the name of a type of warfare, fight, or conflict of some kind. Loren Mitchel reaped the $3.75 spoils of war with an uncontested 71 pt play of TANGLES.

The 100+ Play Progressive Jackpot took a major beating this week. Monique Kornell scored a 107 pt phony with her play of zerolith* to claim one quarter ($0.23) of the $0.93 Jackpot. Ed Saunders earned the other three quarters ($0.70) of the prize with 112 for QUIVERY, 104 for LACQUERS, and 100 even for EXTENDS.

Ed's $0.70 winnings will be donated back to the club kitty.

No one cashed in on any of the other Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.93 added to it. We have paid out a total of $85.81 in prizes during the 2009-2010 season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2009-2010 season.

The next session (October 1, 2009) shall feature the following contests:
• "Q" Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letter "Q" somewhere within it (e.g. MBAQANGA, EQUISETA, QUINNAT, ALIQUOT, QIVIUTS, SHEQALIM, DIQUATS, EQUINOX, etc.)
• Location, Location, Location Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that is the name of, or incorporates the name of somewhere within it, a location of some kind (e.g. BRAZILS, KITCHEN, COLORADO, megaCITY, SUBURBS, MARINAS, BOSTONS, PARKway, etc.)
•Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $9.90 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
•100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - A sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
•Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $6.72 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
•9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $4.10 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
