Session Notes - October 22, 2009 Session

This session marked the eleventh week of NASPA Club #565's 2009-2010 season!

Alice Agaloff and Becky Smith comprised our recreational division this week. Tournament player Phyllis Spence joined them for a game when the tournament division was uneven.
Click here for a roster of Recreational Players

In the Tournament session, we were joined by 9 tournament division players who played 38 games in which we scored 14,154 points for a 372.4739 points per game average. Of the 52 recorded bingos we played, five were phonies that went unchallenged.

Jason Sommer took top honors this week, going 5-0 with a positive 314 pt spread, 12 bingos, and a per game average of 414.8 pts per game.

Some numbers and whatnot for this tournament session include:

Some interesting bingos:

We featured two regular contests this week

The first regular contest was the "X" Marks The Pot Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letter "X" somewhere within it. Monique Kornell explored an EXON (a sequence in the genetic code) for 49 pts, Ty Henry drove his OX into the fray for 51, Travis Carlson mailed it in with FEDEX for 54, Mickey Matz tried to hit the right note with SAX for 55, but Richard Van Liere scored 84 pts with ANTISEX to win the $6.75 prize.

The second regular contest was the Here, Fishy, Fishy!! Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that is, or contains somewhere within it, the name of a fish or type of fish. Ed Saunders CARPed about the measly 22 pts he scored, Travis Carlson jogGED by with 48 pts (GED is another name for a pike), Jason Sommer managed to sneak TROUTing* by for 68 pts (if Jason had gone to school with the fishes, he'da known about "TUTORING". . . .but TUTORING wouldn't have qualified for the contest), and Mary Lou Van Liere trudGED (77) right through the competition to claim the $6.75 prize.

Travis Carlson notched the season's first Triple-Triple with a 176 pt play of MORALITY to pull $15.69 out of the Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot

No one cashed in on any of the other Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $1.68 added to it. We have paid out a total of $159.20 in prizes during the 2009-2010 season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2009-2010 season.

The next session (October 29, 2009) shall feature the following contests:
"GO" For It!! Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letter couplet "GO", in that order, somewhere within it (e.g. LATIGOS, GOMUTIS, DOGGONE, GALAGOS, MARENGO, GODETIAS, DONGOLAS, JINGOISM, etc.)
Three's The Charm Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a three-letter word. TO QUALIFY FOR THIS PRIZE, THE MAIN WORD PLAYED MUST BE A THREE-LETTER WORD. However, it is permissible to play only one or two tiles to form that three-letter word. (e.g. CWM, HAO, IGG, RHO, UGH, ZAX, SUQ, HAJ, ALT, OKA, etc.)
Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - A sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - $1.68 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $12.51 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $2.80 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
