Session Notes - April 22, 2010 Session

This session marked the thirty-fourth week of NASPA Club #565 (Speedway Scrabble Club)'s 2009-2010 season!

No games were played in the recreational division this week.

The tournament rules division was joined by 7 players who played 62 games in which we scored 22,260 points for a 359.0323 point-per-game average. Of the 66 recorded bingos we played, 3 were phonies that went unchallenged.

Ed Saunders took top honors this week, going 4-1 + 352 with a 419.6 pt per game average.
Naurlene Canterman had a HUGE 591 pt game

We featured two regular contests this week.

The first was A Developing Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that is the name of, or incorporates the name of somewhere within it, an immature life form. Roger Wiens hopped right into the fray with his 20 pt JOEY, Mickey Matz liked that so much he hooked an "S" on it to score 33 with QIS/JOEYS, Travis Carlson took it all the way back to the beginning with SEEDing for 33, Naurlene Canterman wasn't being "shellfish" when she shared her 33 pt ZOEA (a larval form of certain crustaceans), but Ed Saunders was reliving his childhood with TOTS/WOOLERS for 74 pts and the $5.25 prize.

The second was The Name Of The Game Is ??? Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that is, or incorporates somewhere within it, the name of a recognizable game. Naurlene Canterman anted up with QUEENS (a card game) for 68 pts, Roger Wiens' 69 pt play ended up DOOMing (DOOM being a video game) Naurlene, Ed Saunders was still reliving his childhood with tilTAGe* for 75, but Travis Carlson was on the go with GOnglike (GO is a Japanese board game) for 80 pts and (sound the gong!) the $5.25 prize.

Naurlene Canterman went all crazy and stuff on Mickey Matz, riding three bingos (URINALS 73, UNWALLED 63, SCORNED 69) and a barrage of 30 and 40 pt plays to a huge 591 pt game to claim the $19.66 in the Club # 565 Progressive Jackpot.

No one cashed in on any of the other Progressive Jackpots this week and $1.31 shall be added to each. We have paid out $605.94 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2009-2010 season.

The next session (April 29, 2010) shall feature the following contests:
•Foul Vowel Contest -A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a "vowel dump" word that consists of more than 70% vowels and at least 3 letters total. (e.g. EAU, OUZO, AECIA, OOGONIA, OIDIOID, AUDITEE, SEQUOIA, ABOITEAU, EPOPOEIA, EULOGIAE, etc.).
•Sticks And Stones Contest -A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that is, or incorporates somewhere within it, the name of something physically or emotionally hurtful. (e.g. BREAKUP, BATTERER, CLUBman, INSULTS, SCIMITAR, IGNOMINY, SUNBURN, LAMBASTE, VEXilla, etc.).
•Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $3.93 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
•100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - $3.93 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
•Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - A sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
•9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $5.43 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
