Session Notes - February 18, 2010 Session

This session marked the twenty-fifth week of NASPA Club #565 (Speedway Scrabble Club)'s 2009-2010 season!

No games were played in the recreational division this week.

The tournament rules division was joined by 8 players who played 54 games in which we scored 19,920 points for a 368.8889 point-per-game average. Of the 56 recorded bingos we played, four were phonies that went unchallenged.

Loren Mitchel took top honors this week, going 5-0 with a positive 336 pt spread, 9 bingos and a 429.2 per game average.

Some numbers and whatnot for the tournament session include:

Some interesting bingos:

We featured two regular contests this week. Both contests were submitted by Travis Carlson. If you have contests you would like to see (or see again, maybe) let me know, I'll see if we can get it in the mix.

The first was the "E.G." Set An Example Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letters "E" and "G", in any order, somewhere within it. Sarah Jacobson ZIGGED into the contest for 20 pts, Loren Mitchel scored 36 by playing a BOGIE, Naurlene Canterman got 68 with her premature DOTAGES, Namoli Brennet rang up 72 pts with INGRATE, but Lewis Saul was seen WEEDING (107 pts) out the opposition for the $6.00 prize.

The second was the Out Of This World Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that is, or contains somewhere within it, the name of something found in outer space. Loren Mitchel and Travis Carlson were the only two feeling at all "spacy" this week, Loren submitting AURA (8 pts) and FLYING (flying?) for 30 pts while Travis submitted ALIENor (14 pts) and the winner BOOSTERS for 63 pts and the $6.00 prize.

Again, this week's regular contests were provided by Travis Carlson. If you have an idea for a contest, or if you have a favorite contest or two from a past session, let me know and we'll see if we can work it back into a future session for you.

Naurlene Canterman picked off the $4.50 prize in the Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot with her 122 pt play of CANNIEST. Naurlene played her 3x3 through the first "N" and had the help of both blanks on the play.

The $3.00 pot in the 100+ Play Progressive Jackpot was split three ways this week as the power of the Double-Double was demonstrated by three different players. Lewis Saul's first play at the club thiis season was the 107 pt 2x2 WEEDING, Loren Mitchel scored 105 with his 2x2 PAINTER, and Ed Saunders racked up 108 with his 2x2 MISTEND. Each of them received $1.00 for their efforts.

No one cashed in on the other Progressive Jackpots this week and $1.50 shall be added to each. We have paid out $431.09 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2009-2010 season.

February 18th's regular contests were provided by Travis Carlson. If you have an idea for a contest, or if you have a favorite contest or two from a past session, let me know and we'll see if we can work it back into a future session for you.

"AB -BA" Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play which includes either of the two-letter words "AB" or "BA" as a separate two-letter word.
Location! Location! Location!
