Session Notes - April 15, 2010 Session

This session marked the thirty-third week of NASPA Club #565 (Speedway Scrabble Club)'s 2009-2010 season!

No games were played in the recreational division this week.

The tournament rules division was joined by 6 players who played 64 games in which we scored 21,285 points for a 332.5781 point-per-game average. Of the 42 recorded bingos we played, 3 were phonies that went unchallenged.

Travis Carlson took another turn with the top honors this week, going 5-1 with a positive 261 pt spread.

Some numbers and whatnot for the tournament session include:

Some interesting bingos:

We featured two regular contests this week.

The first was the Take Me For A Ride In Your Car Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that is the name of, or incorporates the name of somewhere within it, any car or land-based motor vehicle. All of the entries had a Ford Motors connection with Mickey Matz scoring 17 pts for FORD, Lewis Saul getting 24 pts for his old PINTO, and Ed Saunders going waaaay back to the beginning with his winning play of QUAD for 28 pts (Henry Ford's very first car was called a "QUADricycle" but the name QUAD also applies to modern day four wheeled ATVs and dune buggies). Ed drives off with $4.50 for his win.

The second was the Feathered Friends Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that is, or incorporates somewhere within it, the name of a bird. Surprisingly, there were only two entries for this contest. Travis Carlson took us to New Zealand for his 5 pt play of TUI (a bird of New Zealand) while Ed Saunders traveled as well to come up with his winning 10 pt play of REE (the female of the Eurasian sandpiper) to claim the $4.50 prize.

No one cashed in on any of the Progressive Jackpots this week and $1.12 shall be added to each. We have paid out $575.78 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2009-2010 season.

The next session (April 22, 2010) shall feature the following contests:
A Developing Contest -A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that is, or incorporates somewhere within it, the name of an immature life form. The Name of the Game is ??? Contest -A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that is, or incorporates somewhere within it, the name of a recognizable game. (e.g. EUCHRES, HOCKEYS, PACHISI, BASEBALL, SKITTLES, BEZIQUE, SCRABBLE, MONOPOLY, CANASTA, PINOCHLE, BOWLING, KEGLING, BOSTONS, RUMMIES, CHARADES, etc.).
