Session Notes - May 13, 2010 Session

This session marked the thirty-seventh week of NASPA Club #565 (Speedway Scrabble Club)'s 2009-2010 season!

We welcomed recreational player Frieda Liebeskind to the club this week.

Four players played games in the recreational division this week.

The tournament rules division was joined by 11 players who played 60 games in which we scored 21,453 points for a 357.55 point-per-game average. Of the 63 recorded bingos we played, four were phonies that went unchallenged.

Travis Carlson took top honors this week, going 5-1 with a +642 pt spread

Some numbers and whatnot for the tournament session include:

Some interesting bingos:

We featured two regular contests this week.

This session's (May 13th) contests were submitted by the renowned writing tandem of Janis Clem and Sarah Jacobson. Thanks to both.
If you have contest ideas or perhaps a favorite contest from the past, let me know, we'll try to work it into the mix.

The first was the Girl's Names Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that is, or incorporates somewhere within it, a recognizable Girl's Name. Natalie McGee scored 24 pts with MEG, Travis Carlson remembered his GRANNY for 33, Ed Saunders got 68 for EMulate, Mary Lou Van Liere scored 69 for PILLARs, Sarah Jacobson upped that to 71 for DEEding, Lewis Saul played syrINGE, for 79, Monique Kornell gathered 81 pts with DOTtier, but Naurlene Canterman claims the $8.25 prize with 105 pts for JOstler.

The second was the Gettin' There Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that is, or incorporates somewhere within it, the name of a recognizable form or method of transportation. Naurlene Canterman took a DRIVE for 18, Sarah Jacobson took a JET for 30, Monique Kornell saddled up her OX for 31, Lewis Saul HAULS 45 pts into the contest, Ed Saunders played FISH/TRAWLERS for 52, Travis Carlson scored 65 for LEOPARDS (LEOPARDS???, you ask incredulously. . . .well, the Greek God Dionysus was often pictured riding a leopard. . . .of course. . . .it is true that Dionysus was the god of wine and probably pretty damned drunk at the time. . . .), but Mary Lou Van Liere flies off with the $8.25 prize on her 71 pt bloWING.

Naurlene Canterman and Lewis Saul emptied the 100+Play Progressive jackpot this week. Naurlene scored 105 pts with JOSTLER while Lewis Saul made 104 pts with CRAZIES. Naurlene and Lewis take home $4.40 each for their jostling and craziness.

No one cashed in on any of the other Progressive Jackpots this week and $2.06 shall be added to each. We have paid out $667.41 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2009-2010 season.

The next session's (May 20th) contests are from the mind of Mickey Matz (so they could be "just a bit different maybe". . . .) Thanks, Mickey !
If you have contest ideas or perhaps a favorite contest from the past, let me know, we'll try to work it into the mix.

The next session (May 20, 2010) shall feature the following contests:

Palindrome Contest -A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that is a palindrome - a word that is spelled the same way either backwards or forwards. (e.g. , DEIFIED, RACECAR, ROTATOR, REPAPER, SEMEMES, etc.).
Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $3.37 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
