Session Notes - September 10, 2009 Session

THE SPEEDWAY SCRABBLE CLUB WILL NOT MEET ON THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 17TH DUE TO THE DIRECTOR'S PARTICIPATION IN THE ALBUQUERQUE TOURNAMENTS THE WEEKEND OF SEP 18-20. CLUB WILL RESUME ITS NORMAL SCHEDULE ON THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 24TH.

This session marked the sixth week of NASPA Club #565's 2009-2010 season!

There were no games played in our Recreational Division this week.
Click here for a roster of Recreational Players

In the Tournament session, we were joined by 7 tournament division players who played 30 games in which we scored 11,120 points for a 370.6667 points per game average. Of the 39 recorded bingos we played, three were phonies that went unchallenged.

Ed Saunders was the big winner this week, going 5-0 with a positive 477 pt spread, 13 bingos, and a per game average of 436.6 pts per game.

Some numbers and whatnot for this tournament session include:

Some interesting bingos:

We featured two regular contests this week

The first regular contest was the "OMG" Contest - A Salute To Texting* for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letters "O", "M" and "G", in any order, somewhere within it. Richard Spence made it a clean sweep of this contest in both clubs this week, winning on Sunday at the Northwest Club with MOG and winning again here with (Oh, My God!!) MOG. Richard's 23 pt play scores him the $5.25 prize for this contest.

The second regular contest was the Gotta Find A Job Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that is, or incorporates somewhere within it, the name of a profession, occupation, or job of some kind. There were a few entries for this contest that were things that could cause work but were not actually "jobs" per se, so those were not considered for the prize. Ty Henry scored 76 pts with RANCHER, Travis Carlson also scored 76 with CURATES, but Karen Lundeen pulled in the $5.25 prize with COUNSELS for 77 pts.

Phyllis Spence and Ed Saunders launched salvos against the 100+ Play Progressive Jackpot this week. Phyllis had the higher play with 111 pts for BABYING and Ed Saunders only made a measly 108 for SAWFISH. Phyllis and Ed will split the $2.24 in the pot.

Ed's $1.12 winnings, along with the $3.75 prize Travis Carlson won in last week's "LN" Contest, will be donated back to the club kitty. Thanks, guys!

No one cashed in on any of the other Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $1.31 added to it. We have paid out a total of $77.38 in prizes during the 2009-2010 season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2009-2010 season.

The next session (September 24, 2009) shall feature the following contests:
"O, I" Guess We'll Have A Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letters "O" and "I", in any order, somewhere within it (e.g. GNOMIST, OILBIRDS, INTAGLIO, IGNITION, MOGGING, GLIOMAS, ORGASMIC, EOSINIC, etc.)
Them's Fightin' Words Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that is the name of, or incorporates the name of somewhere within it, a type of warfare, fight, or conflict of some kind (e.g. BRULYIE, WARHORSE, DUELIST, THUMPING, QUARREL, SKIRMISH, DOGFIGHT, EMBATTLE, etc.)
Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $8.97 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - A sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $5.79 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $3.17 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
