Session Notes - December 10, 2009 Session

THE SPEEDWAY SCRABBLE CLUB WILL NOT MEET ON CHRISTMAS EVE, DECEMBER 24TH OR NEW YEAR'S EVE, DECEMBER 31ST!!!

CLUB WILL RESUME ITS REGULAR WEEKLY SCHEDULE ON THURSDAY, JANUARY 7TH, 2010!!!

This session marked the seventeenth week of NASPA Club #565's 2009-2010 season!

We welcomed and enjoyed the company of East Side Scrabble Club Director Jeannette Kaufman to club for her first visit of the 2009-2010 season. Hopefully we will be able see her more often in the future.

There were no games played in our recreational division this week.

In the Tournament session, we were joined by 9 tournament division players who played 34 games in which we scored 12,067 points for a 354.9112 points per game average. Of the 35 recorded bingos we played, two were phonies that went unchallenged.

Loren Mitchel took top honors for the week, going 4-0 with a positive 693 pt spread, 10 bingos and a 441 pts per game average.

We featured two regular contests this week

The first regular contest was the "SamTimer" Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letter couplet "ST", in that order, somewhere within it. Loren Mitchel was able to score JUST 20 pts with his play, Vic Kaye got a line on 36 pts with his STRIPE play, but Mickey Matz walked away the RICHEST (77 pts) from this contest, earning the $6.75 prize.

The second regular contest was the Walk A Mile In Their Shoes Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that is, or contains somewhere within it, the name of a shoe or type of footwear. Mary Lou Van Liere displayed her athleticism with her 33 pt play of SPIKE, the only entry in this contest, to claim the $6.75 payoff.

No one cashed in on any of the Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $1.68 added to it. We have paid out a total of $266.98 in prizes during the 2009-2010 season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2009-2010 season.

The next session (December 17, 2009) shall feature the following contests:
• Catch A "CAB" Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letters "C", "A", and "B", in any order, somewhere within it. (e.g. CABEZON, ABSCISED, SETBACK, AEROBICS, CAPABLE, BECAUSE, CHAMBER, etc.)
• Holiday Season Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that is, or contains somewhere within it, the name of something directly connected to one of the holidays being celebrated between now and January 2nd, 2010. (e.g. MENORAH, LANGSYNE, CRECHES, PRESENTS, DREIDLS, CHESTNUT, UNITIES, PURPOSE, MESSIAH, YULETIDE, RESOLVED, etc.)
•Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $7.29 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
•100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - $2.61 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
•Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $5.61 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
•9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $1.68 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
