Session Notes - October 8, 2009 Session

This session marked the ninth week of NASPA Club #565's 2009-2010 season!

There were no games played in our Recreational Division this week.
Click here for a roster of Recreational Players

In the Tournament session, we were joined by 9 tournament division players who played 36 games in which we scored 13,310 points for a 369.7222 points per game average. Of the 46 recorded bingos we played, none were phonies that went unchallenged.

Ed Saunders was the big winner this week, going 4-0 with a positive 521 pt spread, 7 bingos, and a per game average of 435.75 pts per game.

Some numbers and whatnot for this tournament session include:

Some interesting bingos:

We featured two regular contests this week

The first regular contest was the "IS" This Really A Contest? - Yes, It "IS"! for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letter couplet "IS", in that order, somewhere within it. Richard Spence scored 23 with NISI, Phyllis Spence shined with a 68 pt play of GLISTENS, but Ed Saunders reached into the depths of the ocean to haul out a TOADFISH for 80 pts and the $6.75 prize.

The second regular contest was the Compound It! Contest for the highest scoring play of a compound word. Mary Lou Van Liere OUTDRIVES (68) most of the competition, but Richard Spence OUTLIVED (74) her play and Ed Saunders was casting for TOADFISH (80) down by the SEASHORE (94). Ed reels in the $6.75 prize.

Mary Lou Van Liere's driving skills did not go unrewarded though. OUTDRIVES took the $7.09 that was stashed in the 9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot. With a rack of DEIORST, Mary Lou played her 9 through separated "U" and "R" tiles on the board for 68 pts. BONUS CHALLENGE: Can you come up with the FIVE 7-letter bingos in Mary Lou's DEIORST rack? Read backwards for answers: (SROTIDE, DEITROS, DIORETS, DEIROTS, SEDOIRT)

Ed's $13.50 winnings will be donated back to the club kitty.

No one cashed in on any of the other Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $1.68 added to it. We have paid out a total of $116.90 in prizes during the 2009-2010 season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2009-2010 season.

The next session (October 15, 2009) shall feature the following contests:
"Teeny Tiny" Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that contains two or more "T's" somewhere within it (e.g. SHTETLS, STRETTI, TABOURET, TITTUPS, TACITURN, QUITTORS, VITIATE, WITTOLS, DOTTEREL, FOUETTE, BRATWURST, etc.)
That's My Bud! Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that is, or contains somewhere within it, a term which might be used to designate a friend, lover or companion. (e.g. FRIENDLY, PALomino, omBUDSman, HOMEBOY, GOOMBAH, TEAMMATE, COMPADRE, amBROsia, PIGSNEY, SWEETIE, PARAMOUR, etc.)
Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $12.89 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
