Session Notes - March 4, 2010 Session

This session marked the twenty-seventh week of NASPA Club #565 (Speedway Scrabble Club)'s 2009-2010 season!

No games were played in the recreational division this week.

The tournament rules division was joined by 11 players who played 62 games in which we scored 22,818 points for a 368.0323 point-per-game average. Of the 73 recorded bingos we played, 8 were phonies that went unchallenged.

Travis Carlson took top honors this week, going 6-0 with a positive 509 pt spread, 7 bingos and a 400.5 pt per game average.

Some numbers and whatnot for the tournament session include:

Some interesting bingos:

We featured two regular contests this week. Both of this week's contests were submitted by Naurlene Canterman. If you have a contest idea or a favorite contest from the past, let me know and we'll try to get it into the mix for you.

The first was the Happy, Happy Birthday Contest celebrating Naurlene's mmpptthh birthday. The $8.25 prize was awarded to the highest sscoring play of a word that began with either of the letters "N" or "C". Ed Saunders managed to score 42 pts with a little CORN but Monique Kornell had this contest all snug and secure with COZIEST for an amazing 143 pts to claim the prize.

The second was the Sixty-Three Contest for the play that scores closest to 63 pts without going over that number. Ed Saunders tried to digitise* (62 pts) the process, Namoli Brennet thought she might be REELING (62 pts) in a part of the prize, but Mary Lou Van Liere DIVERTED (63 pts) the $8.25 prize into her own pocket.

Monique Kornell took dead aim on the 100+ Play Progressive Jackpot, racking up 143 pts for her play of COZIEST to claim the $3.74 jackpot.

No one cashed in on any of the other Progressive Jackpots this week and $2.06 shall be added to each. We have paid out $464.83 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2009-2010 season.

The next session (March 11, 2010) shall feature the following contests:
Dad GUM It!!!Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that includes the letters "G", "U", and "M", in any order, somewhere within it. (e.g. GERANIUM, MAJAGUA, SCUMBAG, MAGUEYS, SPHAGNUM, BLUEGUM, GUMBOOTS, PUGMARK, MUSKEGS, BIGMOUTH, STINGRAY, etc.)
