Session Notes - February 4, 2010 Session

This session marked the twenty-third week of NASPA Club #565 (Speedway Scrabble Club)'s 2009-2010 season!

No games were played in the recreational division this week.

The tournament rules division was joined by 8 players who played 50 games in which we scored 18,461 points for a 369.22 point-per-game average. Of the 67 recorded bingos we played, EIGHT were phonies that went unchallenged.

Richard Spence took top honors this week, going 6-0 with a positive 552 pt spread and a 419.67 per game average.

Some numbers and whatnot for the tournament session include:

Some interesting bingos:

We featured two regular contests this week.

The first was the Well, You Can Call Me JAY! Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letter "J" somewhere within it. Loren Mitchel racked up 38 pts with JARS, Ed Saunders collected tolls worth 48 pts with JOWED, Naurlene Canterman thought she'd escape with the prize after scoring 64 pts with JAILS, but Richard Spence was JAUNTIER (110 pts) than all the rest and raked in the $6.00 prize.

The second was the Fabrics Of Our Lives Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that is the name of, or incorporates the name of within it, some sort of fiber or fabric. Ed Saunders YARNed a 20 pt tale, Richard Spence wrapped his hopes in the 54 pt phony GAUZEd*, but Travis Carlson drew a bead on the prize money with his 64 pt bingo BEADING to claim the $6.00 prize.

The 100+ Play Progressive Jackpot fell for the third consecutive week. Richard Spence nailed it and the $1.50 jackpot with a 110 pt play of JAUNTIER.

Travis Carlson picked off the 9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot, bingoing out in his final game of the night. From a rack of AEEILR?, and playing off a hanging "ID", Travis came up with IDEALIZER for 63 pts and the $3.37 pt prize.

No one cashed in on the other Progressive Jackpots this week and $1.50 shall be added to each. We have paid out $398.09 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2009-2010 season.

The next session (February 11, 2010) shall feature the following contests:
The Gem Show Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that is the name of, or that incorporates the name of somewhere within it, a mineral, rock, or geological formation. (e.g. INLIERS, KOPPIES, GAHNITES, EMERALDS, CRYSTAL, PEBBLES, BEDROCK, NEPHRITE, BOWLDERS, MOUNTAIN, GARNETS, NUNATAK, SEAMOUNT, EARSTONE, HILLOCKS, etc.)
The Words Of Love Contest - In honor of the Valentine's Day Holiday, a quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that reflects the meaning of the holiday. (e.g. CHERUBIC, ARCHERS, WARMTHS, CUDDLING, POETICS, TRYSTING, COUPLES, DULCINEA, PIGSNEY, SWEETER, KNEESIES, HONGIING, KISSABLE, etc.).
Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $1.50 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - A sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
