We welcomed and thoroughly enjoyed the company and competitive play of new player Travis Carlson this week. We're looking forward to seeing him at future sessions.
In the Tournament session, we were joined by 5 tournament division players who played 22 games in which we scored 7,859 points for a 357.2272 points per game average. Of the 27 recorded bingos we played, three were phonies that went unchallenged.
Ed Saunders was the big winner this week, going 5-1 with a positive 696 pt spread, 14 bingos, and a per game average of 431.1667 pts per game.
Some numbers and whatnot for this tournament session include:
Some interesting bingos:
We featured two regular contests this week
The first regular contest was the "LN" Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letters "L" and "N", in any order, somewhere within it. Everybody had an entry for this contest featuring the sometimes difficult "LN" combo. Phyllis Spence started us off with TUNNELS for 65 pts, Karen Lundeen feasted on her 66 pt LOMEINS, Monique Kornell looked far, far, far into her distant future (nah. . . .she'll never get old. . . .) with her 66 pt play of ANILITY, crazy Ed Saunders also scored 66 pts with LUNIEST, but newbie Travis Carlson played untiled*, one of the Scrabble world's "Famous Fonies", for 76 pts and the $3.75 prize.
The second regular contest was the I Talk To The Trees Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that is, or incorporates somewhere within it, the name of a tree, bush, or shrub of some kind. We went overseas for this one, an AL is an East Indian tree, an ANIL is a West Indian shrub, and a LING is a Eurasian shrub also called "heather". Ed Saunders scored 64 pts with his play sALterns, Travis Carlson managed 65 pts for naiLING, Karen Lundeen also got 65 pts for prALine, but Monique Kornell had the Indies covered from west to east with 66 pts for ANILity and 67 pts for the winning entry ALcaide. We're happy to contribute $3.75 toward her next trip to the Indies.
Monique has kindly donated her $3.75 prize back to the club kitty. Thanks, Monique!!!
No one cashed in on any of the Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.93 added to it. We have paid out a total of $64.64 in prizes during the 2009-2010 season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2009-2010 season.
