Session Notes - April 1, 2010 Session

This session marked the thirty-first week of NASPA Club #565 (Speedway Scrabble Club)'s 2009-2010 season!

No games were played in the recreational division this week.

The tournament rules division was joined by 8 players who played 70 games in which we scored 24,682 points for a 352.6 point-per-game average. Of the 63 recorded bingos we played, 4 were phonies that went unchallenged.

Travis Carlson took top honors this week, going 5-1 with a positive 377 pt spread.

We featured two regular contests this week.

The first was the Happy, Happy Birthday!!!! Contest (Richard Spence) for the highest scoring play of a word that begins with either of the letters "R" and "S". Naurlene Canterman played SWEETIES 64, Mickey Matz STRAINS 72, Lewis Saul SWANKER 77, Sarah Jacobson RELOADS 78, Ed Saunders SOVRANS 78, Namoli Brennet stewier* 79, but Travis Carlson took the final spot in this series with SERIATED for 80 pts and the $6.00 prize.

The second was the Happy, Happy Belated Birthday!! Contest (Travis Carlson) for the highest scoring play of a word that begins with either of the letters "T" and "C". Naurlene Canterman tried TARDIER for 60, Mickey Matz TOUTERS 65, Namoli Brennet TREATING 74, Travis Carlson CANDELAS 74, Lewis Saul CORNICES 77, but Monique Kornell harvested 88 pts worth of COWAGES and the $6.00 prize.

Namoli Brennet cleaned out the $1.50 in the Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot by playing GREASIER through the first "E" for 122 pts, the Triple-Triple, and the cash.

The 100+ Play Progressive Jackpot fell yet again this week. Monique Kornell was the winner this week, scoring 114 pts and the $1.50 prize with ADJOINS.

No one cashed in on the other Progressive Jackpots this week and $1.50 shall be added to each. We have paid out $554.78 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2009-2010 season.

The next session (April 8, 2010) shall feature the following contests:
• Gotta Dance! Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that is the name of, or incoporates the name of somewhere within it, a dance. (e.g. SARABAND, MAXIXES, TANGOed, JIGsawn, FOXTROTS, GAVOTte, LINDIES, cREELed, unTWIST, RHUMBAS, etc.)
• No BS! Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that does not include a blank (B) or an "S" tile (e.g. CAZIQUE, QUIXOTRY, JAROVIZE, WATERZOOI, ZECCHINO, KOLHOZY, etc.)
•Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - A sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
•100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - A sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
•Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $15.73 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
•9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $1.50 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
