Session Notes - October 30, 2008 Session

This session marked the twelfth week of NSA Club #565's 2008-2009 season!

In our second full season as a two-tiered club with both a Recreational and a separate Tournament Rules Division, there will continue to be some tweaking done as the Recreational Division develops.

In the Tournament session, we were joined by 4 tournament division players who played 16 games in which we scored 5,496 points for a 343.5 points per game average. Of the 18 recorded bingos we played, none was a phony that went unchallenged.

We featured two regular contests this week

The first regular contest was the C;mon And Do The Locomotion! Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that is the name of, or incorporates the name of somewhere within it, some form of vehicle or mode of transportation. Karen Lundeen tried SAILING for 15 pts but Ed Saunders took a ride in his car, which he parked inside his 70 pt play of SCARIEST to lay claim to the $3.00 prize in this contest.

The second regular contest was the "BOO" To You!!! Halloween Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letters "BOO", in any order somewhere within it. Ed Saunders had the only two entries in this contest, setting the tone with his OBOE for 12 pts, but picking up the $3.00 prize with a 20 pt play of DOOBIE.

Ed also hit the century mark with his 100 pt bingo of REALIZE to knock off the 100+ Point Play Progressive Jackpot and realize the $4.11 winnings in the pot this week.

Ed's $10.11 winnings will be donated back to the club kitty.

No one cashed in on any of the other Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.75 added to it. We have paid out a total of $114.62 in prizes during the 2008-2009 season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2008-2009 season.

The next session (November 6, 2008) shall feature the following contests:
• Clothes Make The Winner! Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that is the name of, or incorporates the name of somewhere within it, some item of clothing or clothing accessory. (e.g. GEWGAWS, DJELLABA, FILIBEG, MOZETTA, JODHPUR, PYJAMAS, TITFERS, HUIPILS, CHOPINE, EARRINGS, etc.)
• To "BE" Or Not To "BE" Contest! - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letter couplet "BE", in that order, somewhere within it. (e.g. BEWRAYS, ASTILBE, ABERRANT, ARBELEST, BELDAME, FRISBEE, AMBERINA, MISBEGUN, etc.)
•Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $15.12 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
•100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - A sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
•Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $3.55 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
•9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $19.79 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
