Session Notes - February 26, 2009 Session

This session marked the twenty-sixth week of NSA Club #565's 2008-2009 season!

No games were played in the Recreational Division this week.

In the Tournament session, we were joined by 6 tournament division players who played 22 games in which we scored 8,460 points for a 384.5455 points per game average. Of the 33 recorded bingos we played, two were phonies that went unchallenged.

We featured two regular contests this week

The first regular contest was the Happy, Happy Birthday!! Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that begins with either of the letters "K" or "L" (In honor of Karen Lundeen's birthday). Pat Madea scored 32 for his play of LEZ, Ed Saunders managed 35 for KEX, but Phyllis Spence lifted the $4.50 prize off the table with an 84 pt play of LIFTERS.

The second regular contest was the Colorful Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that is the name of, or incorporates the name of somewhere within it, a color. Ed Saunders tried WINEd for 26, Richard Spence went off on a tangent with his 72 pt play of TANgents, but Pat Madea played SANDiest for 74 to add $4.50 to his "next trip to the beach" fund.

No one cashed in on any of the Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $1.12 added to it. We have paid out a total of $272.26 in prizes during the 2008-2009 season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2008-2009 season.

The next session (March 5, 2009) shall feature the following contests:
• High Powered Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that contains one or more of the letters "J", "K", "Q", "X", and "Z" (e.g. MOJARRA, KEDDAHS, ALIQUANT, XEROSERE, ZECCHIN, CAJUPUT, MISTEUK, QINDARKA, MAXIXES, ZASTRUGA, etc.)
• Low Powered Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that contains no letters that are worth more than one point. Any blanks used must also be designated as a one point letter (e.g. STEARINE, NOTARIES, INANEST, ORINASAL, ATLATLS, OORALIS, ALLELES, etc.).
•Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $4.86 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
•100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - $7.28 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
•Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $15.88 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
•9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $1.12 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
