Session Notes - June 25, 2009 Session

This session marked the forty-third week of NASPA Club #565's 2008-2009 season!

We welcomed and thoroughly enjoyed the company of Mary Lou and Richard Van Liere at the club this week. The long-time East side Tucson players made their first foray over to the Speedway Club. We're glad to have them and hope to see them often in the future.

No games were played in the Recreational Division this week.
Click here for a roster of Recreational Players

In the Tournament session, we were joined by 7 tournament division players who played 32 games in which we scored 11,866 points for a 370.8125 points per game average. Of the 41 recorded bingos we played, two were phonies that went unchallenged.

Some numbers and whatnot for this tournament session include:

Some interesting bingos:

We featured two regular contests this week

The first regular contest was the OOH! We're Having A Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letters "O", "O", and "H", in any order, somewhere within it. Mary Lou Van Liere said "OOH! We're having a contest." and put down OHO for 10 pts. Then, just to be sure, she played HOOD for 22 pts to win the $6.75 prize.

The second regular contest was the Home and Gardens Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that is, or incorporates somewhere within it, the name of something that might be found around the house or garden. Kayla Peck played RICER for an unknown number of pts, Mary Lou Van Liere chipped in with CURBS for 20 pts and Richard Spence wins this contest with his play of VAULTier (a VAULT being an arched ceiling) for 63 pts and the $3.75 prize.

Richard Van Liere celebrated his first day at club with a 100 pt play of RETIRES to pull $8.41 out of the 100+ Play Progressive Jackpot.

Ed Saunders took down the biggest Progressive Jackpot on the sheet this week, riding three bingos (OUTRAGES, OUTLIER, and LETTERS) plus an 80 pt play of BAIZE to a massive 583 pt game to win the $28.96 prize jackpot.

Ed's $28.96 winnings will be donated back to the club kitty

No one cashed in on either of the other Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.93 added to it. We have paid out a total of $436.29 in prizes during the 2008-2009 season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2008-2009 season.

The next session (July 02, 2009) shall feature the following contests:
Independence Day Contest - In honor of our country's historical day of independence, a quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that pertains in some direct manner to the 4th of July (e.g. FIREWORK, PICNICS, FREEDOM, LIBERTY, BALLGAME, DECLARE, CONGRESS, COOKOUTS, etc.) If your word is kinda iffy, support your play with a sentence tying it to the 4th of July as best you can.
"U-L" Love This Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letters "U", and "L", in any order, somewhere within it (e.g. FULMARS, LUMBAGO, FISTULA, ULULATED, INVOLUTE, UNSTABLE, LABDANUM, SELENIUM, etc.)
Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $17.94 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - A sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - A sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $4.49 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
