Session Notes - September 18, 2008 Session

The September 18th Session Was Played At Our New Permanent Location At The Denny's Restaurant Located At 3655 E. Speedway Blvd In Central Tucson.

This session marked the seventh week of NSA Club #565's 2008-2009 season!

In our second full season as a two-tiered club with both a Recreational and a separate Tournament Rules Division, there will continue to be some tweaking done as the Recreational Division develops.

Two recreational and three tournament division players took part in recreational division games played this week. We welcomed new player Dave Eschhofen (Super Dave) to our recreational division this week. Click here for a roster of Recreational Players

In the Tournament session, we were joined by 4 tournament division players who played 16 games in which we scored 6,096 points for a 381.00 points per game average. Of the 21 recorded bingos we played, three were phonies that went unchallenged.

We featured two regular contests this week

The first regular contest was The Colors Of Our Lives Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that is the name of, or incorporates the name of somewhere within it, a color. No one played any colorful words this week, so we'll carry the $3.00 prize forward until next time.

The second regular contest was the "G" What A Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that begins with the letter "G". Mickey Matz played GLADE for 16 pts, Karen Lundeen tried GIRLY for 18, Ed Saunders found GEY for 23, but Richard Spence secured the $3.00 prize with his 30 point play of GLUEY.

Ed Saunders looked at his rack of ABDMNRS and began looking for open vowels. Finding an "A" open in the middle spot between two DWS squares, Ed dropped ARMBANDS for the 102 point double-double and the $3.36 built up in the 100+ Play Progressive Jackpot.

Ed's $3.36 winnings will be donated back to the club kitty.

No one cashed in on any of the other Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.75 added to it. We have paid out a total of $56.22 in prizes during the 2008-2009 season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2008-2009 season.

The next session (September 25, 2008) shall feature the following contests:
• The Colors Of Our Lives Contest - $3.00 plus a quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that is the name of, or incorporates the name of somewhere within it, a color. (e.g. REDTAIL, BROWNIER, PINKEYE, CERULEAN, FUCHSIA, CELADON, BLUEGILL, ANTIRED, etc.)
• "V" Is For Vicugna Contest! - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that begins with the letter "V". (e.g. VICUGNA, VIRAGOS, VALORIZE, VULGATE, VAVASOR, VEEPEES, VOLUTIN, etc.)
•Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $11.01 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
•100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - A sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
•Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $17.73 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
•9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $15.68 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
