Session Notes - December 18 2008 Session

THE SPEEDWAY SCRABBLE CLUB WILL TAKE THE NEXT TWO WEEKS OFF TO OBSERVE THE CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR'S HOLIDAYS. CLUB SESSIONS WILL RESUME AS NORMAL ON JANUARY 8, 2009. HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE.

This session marked the eighteenth week of NSA Club #565's 2008-2009 season!

We were happy to see old friend Yvonne Knickerbocker walk through the door this week. Yvonne greeted the assemblage and proceeded to kick butt, finishing with a 3-0 record, seven bingos and a 476 pt average for the night. She's welcome to come back again anyway.

In the Tournament session, we were joined by 7 tournament division players who played 26 games in which we scored 9,385 points for a 360.96 points per game average. Of the 27 recorded bingos we played, three were phonies that went unchallenged.

We featured two regular contests this week

The first regular contest was the New Year's Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that begins with either of the letters "N" and "Y". Karen Lundeen prayed that her 14 pt play of NUN would win, Sarah Jacobson put the nix on that idea with a 21 pt play of NIX, Roger Wiens said "Nah" to Sarah's claim by virtue of his 25 pt play of NAH, but Ed Saunders dug up a YAM worth 32 pts to wolf down the $5.25 prize.

The second regular contest was the Christmas Season Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that pertains in some DIRECT way to the Christmas Season. Mickey Matz played MIRTH for 20 pts, but Karen Lundeen wins the $5.25 prize with a 21 pt play of JOY.

Yvonne Knickerbocker cleaned out the 100+ Play Progressive Jackpot with a 102 pt double-double of BREATHES to suck in the $2.06 pot.

Ed's $5.25 winnings will be donated back to the club kitty.

No one cashed in on any of the other Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $1.31 added to it. We have paid out a total of $160.17 in prizes during the 2008-2009 season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2008-2009 season.

The next session (January 8, 2009) shall feature the following contests:
• "OU" Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that contains both of the letters "P" and "H" anywhere within it. (e.g. BIVOUACS, NOXIOUS, BUOYING UNOPENED, ABOULIA, AUCTION, COLUMNAR, OUREBIS, BULBOUS, etc.)
•Flower Power Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that is the name of, or incorporates the name of somewhere within it, a flower or flowering plant of some kind. (e.g. AZALEAS, MARIGOLD, ABUTILON, ASTILBE, MAGNOLIA, DOGWOOD, BEGONIA, HAWKWEED, PRIMROSE, MUMMIFY, etc.)
•Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $20.17 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
•100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - A sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
•Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $8.60 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
•9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $24.84 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
