Session Notes - October 16, 2008 Session

This session marked the tenth week of NSA Club #565's 2008-2009 season!

In our second full season as a two-tiered club with both a Recreational and a separate Tournament Rules Division, there will continue to be some tweaking done as the Recreational Division develops.

No recreational division games were played this week. Click here for a roster of Recreational Players

In the Tournament session, we were joined by 5 tournament division players who played 24 games in which we scored 8,157 points for a 339.875 points per game average. Of the 25 recorded bingos we played, two were phonies that went unchallenged.

We featured two regular contests this week

The first regular contest was the You're Driving Me Buggy! Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that is the name of, or incorporates the name of somewhere within it, some form of insect. Ed Saunders had the only entry in this contest and he went straight to the point, scoring 86 points for his play of INSECTS to pick up the $3.75 prize

The second regular contest was the "CH, CH, CH, CHia" Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letter couplet "CH" somewhere within it. Ed Saunders carried the torch in this contest with a 28 point play of TORCH to light his way to the $3.75 prize.

Ed's $7.50 winnings will be donated back to the club kitty.

No one cashed in on any of the Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.93 added to it. We have paid out a total of $98.51 in prizes during the 2008-2009 season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2008-2009 season.

The next session (October 23, 2008) shall feature the following contests:
• Creatures Of The Deep! Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that is the name of, or incorporates the name of somewhere within it, some form of underwater-dwelling life form. (e.g. RATFISH, OCTOPUS, NAUTILUS, ABALONE, REQUINS, PORPOISE, CRAWDAD, PLANKTON, MERMAID, BOWFINS, TUNICATE, MOJARRAS, CRABCAKES, SARGASSO, FISHGIG, SEAROBIN, etc.)
• Just Call Me "AL" Contest! - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letter couplet "AL", in that order, somewhere within it. (e.g. ALANINE, OMENTAL, GALILEE, RORQUALS, LALLING, ALLEGORY, GONADIAL, GONIDIAL, RADIALE, ABYSMAL, ALNICOS, etc.)
•Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $13.62 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
•100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - $2.61 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
•Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $2.05 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
•9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $18.29 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
