Session Notes - March 12, 2009 Session

This session marked the twenty-eighth week of NSA Club #565's 2008-2009 season!

We welcomed new player Pete Cerenzia to the fold this week and enjoyed his company while he tried out the world of Club Scrabble. We hope to see him again at future sessions.

Newcomer Pete Cerenzia anchored our Recreational Division this week, playing two games against tournament players and getting his feet wet in the club.
Click here for a roster of Recreational Players

In the Tournament session, we were joined by 3 tournament division players who played 14 games in which we scored 4,891 points for a 349.3571 points per game average. Of the 11 recorded bingos we played, one was a phony that went unchallenged.

Some numbers and whatnot for this tournament session include:

Some interesting bingos:

We featured two regular contests this week

The first regular contest was the "UM" Let's Have A Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letter couplet "UM" or "MU" somewhere within it. Ed Saunders played MUTE for 12 pts, Karen Lundeen chimed in with UM for 15, and Sarah Jacobson walked off with the $2.25 prize with her 18 pt play of MU.

The second regular contest was the Lookin' For A Job Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that is the name of, or incorporates the name of somewhere within it, a job or profession of some sort. Ed Saunders found religion with NUN for 17 pts, but Karen Lundeen went generic with a 27 pt play of JOB to pick up the $2.25 paycheck for this contest.

Looking at the results of both regular contests, you have to say the players are paying attention to the rules.

Ed Saunders scooped up the $8.40 in the 100+ Play Progressive Jackpot with a 104 pt play of LOCATER, in which he was fortunate enough to hook his "C" onto an existing ROC so that the "C" landed on the top middle TWS square.

Ed's $8.40 winnings will be donated back to the club kitty.

No one cashed in on any of the other Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.56 added to it. We have paid out a total of $289.66 in prizes during the 2008-2009 season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2008-2009 season.

The next session (March 19, 2009) shall feature the following contests:
Practicing Prefixes Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that begins with one of the prefixes "IN", "OUT", "UN", or "OVER". To qualify, the combination must actually be USED as a prefix, rather than just the first letters on the word. For example, the word "INCONNU" is the name of a large food fish and the beginning of "IN" is not actually used as a prefix, it simply begins the word. (e.g. INEDIBLE, OUTWEAR, UNWORTHY, OVEREAT, INCOMING, OUTGOING, UNEATEN, OVERNEAT, etc.)
Springy Kinda Stuff Contest - In honor of the beginning of Spring on March 20th, a quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that is the name of, or incorporates the name of somewhere within it, something that pertains to Spring. If your word is "IFFY", back it up with a sentence connecting it to Spring. (e.g. SHOWERS, FLOWERS, BIRDSONG, ROMANCE, GARDENS, OUTDOORS, BASEBALL, SNOWMELT, etc.).
Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $5.98 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - A sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $17.00 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $2.24 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
