Session Notes - February 12, 2009 Session

This session marked the twenty-fourth week of NSA Club #565's 2008-2009 season!

We welcomed Loren Mitchel back to the club after a 2 1/2 year hiatus.

No games were played in the Recreational Division this week.

In the Tournament session, we were joined by 4 tournament division players who played 14 games in which we scored 5,020 points for a 358.5714 points per game average. Of the 18 recorded bingos we played, two were phonies that went unchallenged.

We featured two regular contests this week

The first regular contest was the Happy, Happy Birthday!! Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that begins with either of the letters "A" or "L" (In honor of Abraham Lincoln's birthday). Pat Madea carved out a spot with his 18 pt play of AX, Sarah Jacobson upped that to 27 with her play of LOADED, but Loren Mitchel put the club on the alert with a 74 pt play of ALERTING to take home the $3.00 prize.

The second regular contest was the Body Parts Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that is the name of, or incorporates the name of somewhere within it, a part of the human body. Sarah Jacobson played TAIL for 8 pts, Pat Madea made 26 with his play of JAW, and Loren Mitchel swept this week's prizes with a 41 pt play of AB/DONA and another $3.00 prize.

No one cashed in on any of the Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.75 added to it. We have paid out a total of $221.76 in prizes during the 2008-2009 season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2008-2009 season.

The next session (February 19, 2009) shall feature the following contests:
• Happy, Happy Birthday!! Contest - Ed Saunders celebrates his mmmpppptttthhhh birthday on Saturday, February 21st. In honor of this occasion, a quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that begins with either of the letters "E" or "S" (e.g. EUROKIES, SILLABUB,ETAGERES, SAPHENA, EUPHORIA, SADDHUS, EOHIPPUS, SANDDAB, EVANGEL, SAGAMORE, etc.)
• A Colorful Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that is the name of, or incorporates the name of somewhere within it, a color, dye, or pigment of some sort (e.g. BLUEtick, antiRED, GREENier, ALIZARIN, CROCEIN, MAGENTA, TURKOIS, VERMEIL, INDIGOID, XANTHIN, COPPERY, PINKeye, etc.).
•Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $2.43 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
•100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - $4.85 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
•Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $13.45 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
•9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $29.69 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
