Session Notes - December 11, 2008 Session

This session marked the seventeenth week of NSA Club #565's 2008-2009 season!

We enjoyed the company of North Carolina resident Sharon Flicker this week. Sharon is visiting in Tucson on an open-ended basis and we look forward to seeing her at club sessions while she's in town.

No recreational division games were played this week. Click here for a roster of Recreational Players

In the Tournament session, we were joined by 5 tournament division players who played 22 games in which we scored 7,850 points for a 356.8 points per game average. Of the 19 recorded bingos we played, one was a phony that went unchallenged.

Some numbers and whatnot for this tournament session include:

Some interesting bingos:

We featured two regular contests this week

The first regular contest was the "PH" Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letters "P" and "H" somewhere within it. Mickey Matz and Ed Saunders both played the word "HOPE" this week. Mickey scored 27 points with his play, but Ed had an even higher hope and scored 32 points to garner the $3.00 payoff.

The second regular contest was the Pearl Harbor Memorial Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that pertains in some DIRECT way to war, combat, or the weapons of war. While there were some entries that could be construed to pertain to war in some way, Sarah Jacobson had the only play that pertained directly to war with her 69 pt play of REDOUBT, an enclosed fortification. Sarah picks up the $3.00 spoils of this war of words.

Ed's $3.00 winnings will be donated back to the club kitty.

No one cashed in on any of the Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.75 added to it. We have paid out a total of $147.61 in prizes during the 2008-2009 season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2008-2009 season.

The next session (December 18, 2008) shall feature the following contests:
New Year's Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that begins with either of the letters "N" or "Y" (e.g. NAUTILI, YARMULKE, NIELLOS, YASHMAK, NUNATAKS, YAKITORI, NANDINA, YCLEPED, etc.)
Christmas Season Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that pertains in some DIRECT way to the Christmas Season (e.g. CRECHES, BIRTHDAY, WORSHIP, SHOPPING, PRESENTS, INCENSE, MANGERS, CAROLING, EGGNOGS, etc.)
Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $18.86 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - $0.75 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $7.29 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $23.53 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
