Session Notes - October 9, 2008 Session

This session marked the ninth week of NSA Club #565's 2008-2009 season!

This session, we welcomed old friend Jeremiah Ramirez back to the club after a three year hiatus. Jeremiah lives close by our new location.

In our second full season as a two-tiered club with both a Recreational and a separate Tournament Rules Division, there will continue to be some tweaking done as the Recreational Division develops.

In the Tournament session, we were joined by 6 tournament division players who played 26 games in which we scored 9,021 points for a 346.96 points per game average. Of the 22 recorded bingos we played, one was a phony that went unchallenged.

We featured two regular contests this week

The first regular contest was The Colors Of Our Lives Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that is the name of, or incorporates the name of somewhere within it, a color. Pat Madea scored 26 pts for his play of MAUVE, but Mickey Matz beat that with 29 pts for GREY and put $9.75 worth of green in his pocket.

The second regular contest was the Show Me The Money Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that is the name of, or incorporates the name of somewhere within it, some form of money. Sarah Jacobson tried a couple of foreign currencies with ZAIRE for 25 and XU for 38, but Mickey Matz added $4.50 to his income with INCOME for 41 pts and the win.

No one cashed in on any of the Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $1.12 added to it. We have paid out a total of $91.01 in prizes during the 2008-2009 season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2008-2009 season.

The next session (October 16, 2008) shall feature the following contests:
• You're Driving Me Buggy! Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that is the name of, or incorporates the name of somewhere within it, some form of insect. (e.g. MOTHLIKE, CECROPIA, TROILUS, BOTFLIES, CADDISES, BILLBUGS, WEEVILS, BARFLIES, SCARABS, HORNWORM, etc.)
• "CH, CH, CH, CHia" Contest! - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letter couplet "CH" somewhere within it. (e.g. CHAPATTI, ECHELONS, QUAICHS, CHARQUID, LARCHES, BLANCHED, OLIGARCH, INCHOATE, ZILCHES, etc.)
•Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $12.69 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
•100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - $1.68 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
•Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $1.12 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
•9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $17.36 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
