Session Notes - July 9, 2009 Session

This session marked the forty-fifth week of NASPA Club #565's 2008-2009 season!

No games were played in the Recreational Division this week.
Click here for a roster of Recreational Players

In the Tournament session, we were joined by 9 tournament division players who played 44 games in which we scored 16,127 points for a 366.5227 points per game average. Of the 49 recorded bingos we played, two were phonies that went unchallenged.

Some numbers and whatnot for this tournament session include:

Some interesting bingos:

We featured two regular contests this week

The first regular contest was the "BR" Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letters "B", and "R", in any order, somewhere within it. Ed Saunders led it off with BUR for 10 pts, Kayla Peck hooked that with a Y for BURY to tally 21 pts, Richard Spence tried BROWN for 29 pts, Mary Lou Van Liere was puttin' on the dog with OUTBARKS for 78 pts, but Michael Rhodes came up with the proverbial "horse of a different color" playing ZEBRASS for 91 pts and rides off with the $6.75 prize.

The second regular contest was the Independence Day Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that pertains in some direct manner to the 4th of July. There were no entries last week so the $4.50 prize was rolled over to this session. Michael Rhodes tried TOASTIER (as in "hotter than last year") for 68, Richard Spence showed his love of COUNTRY for 79 pts, but Sarah Jacobson wins the combined $11.25 prize with her 88 pt play of EQUALITY.

No one cashed in on any of the Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $1.68 added to it. We have paid out a total of $459.91 in prizes during the 2008-2009 season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2008-2009 season.

The next session (July 16, 2009) shall feature the following contests:
Bugs 'n Stuff Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that is the name of or pertains in some direct manner to an insect or bug of some sort (e.g. FIGEATER, MORPHOS, HELMINTH, SPHINGID, PISMIRE, BRULOTS, LACEWING, OOTHECAE, etc.) If your word is kinda iffy, support your play with a sentence tying it to insects or bugs as best you can.
"X" Marks The Pot Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letter "X" somewhere within it (e.g. XANTHAN, AUXETIC, SALPINX, HYRAXES, EXIGENCY, VERNIXES, POLEAXE, etc.)
Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $20.74 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - $1.68 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $2.80 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $7.29 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
