Session Notes - July 2, 2009 Session

This session marked the forty-fourth week of NASPA Club #565's 2008-2009 season!

We welcomed and thoroughly enjoyed the company of Sherry Schaff-Sommer this week. The long-time companion and relatively recent wife of Jason Sommer, Sherry is in town helping Jason organize the properties they own in Tucson. This will, unfortunately, be the one Thursday that she's in town.

No games were played in the Recreational Division this week.

In the Tournament session, we were joined by 6 tournament division players who played 26 games in which we scored 9,827 points for a 377.9615 points per game average. Of the 38 recorded bingos we played, two were phonies that went unchallenged.

We featured two regular contests this week

The first regular contest was the "U-L" Love This Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letters "U", and "L", in any order, somewhere within it. Richard Spence cried "FOUL" for 9 pts, Sarah Jacobson came UNGLUED for 10 pts, Jason Sommer hid under some QUILTS for 16 pts, but Ed Saunders completely evoluted* a word (Like, totally, Dude. . . .) for 74 pts and Monique Kornell unleashed UNLEASED for a like number of pts. Ed and Monique split the $4.50 prize.

The second regular contest was the Independence Day Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that pertains in some direct manner to the 4th of July. There were no entries this week so the $4.50 prize will be rolled over to the next session

Monique Kornell and Jason Sommer both staged an assault on the 100+ Play Progressive Jackpot this week. Monique led the way with a 107 pt play of SCALENI and Jason followed that up with DEAFENS for an even 100 pts. Each takes home a $0.56 portion of the $1.12 that was in the pot this week.

Ed's $2.25 winnings will be donated back to the club kitty

No one cashed in on any of the other Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $1.12 added to it. We have paid out a total of $441.91 in prizes during the 2008-2009 season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2008-2009 season.

The next session (July 09, 2009) shall feature the following contests:
• Independence Day Contest - In honor of our country's historical day of independence, $4.50 plus a quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that pertains in some direct manner to the 4th of July (e.g. FIREWORK, PICNICS, FREEDOM, LIBERTY, BALLGAME, DECLARE, CONGRESS, COOKOUTS, etc.) If your word is kinda iffy, support your play with a sentence tying it to the 4th of July as best you can.
• "BR" Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letters "B", and "R", in any order, somewhere within it (e.g. BARGHEST, ZAREEBA, ARBALEST, ZEBRINE, RABATOS, SARABAND, RAREBITS, etc.)
•Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $19.06 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
•100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - A sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
•Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $1.12 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
•9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $5.61 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
