Session Notes - June 12, 2008 Session

This session marked the thirty-first week of NSA Club #565's 2007-2008 season!

We were happy to see, and welcomed, Morgan Gilbert back to the club after a year-plus-long hiatus. Since the club rating system was revamped during the period he was absent from club, he was given a new club rating based on his performance at club this week.

Since this season will be our first full season as a two-tiered club with both a Recreational and a separate Tournament Rules Division. There will be some tweaking done as the Recreational Division develops.

In the Tournament session, we were joined by 4 tournament division players who played 16 games in which we scored 5,768 points for a 360.50 points per game average. Of the 21 recorded bingos we played, two were phonies that went unchallenged.

We featured two regular contests this week

The first regular contest was the CAT! Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letters "C-A-T", in any order, somewhere within it. Ed Saunders catted around and came up with some SCANTIES for 74 pts and the $3.00 prize

The second regular contest was the DOG! Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letters "D-O-G", in any order, somewhere within it. Mickey Matz pulled an end-play bingo of DOWAGERS (66 pts) off his rack to win both a game and this contest's $3.00 prize.

Ed Saunders hung a "T" in the 3rd position on a Triple-Triple line and held his breath as Morgan Gilbert (who hasn't played in a year or so. . . .) missed the 3x3 bingo PI(T)hIEST and played PInIEST elsewhere. Down came Ed's 131 pt Triple-Triple of OU(T)SIDeS to take home the $13.80 that had accumulated in the Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot.

Ed's 16.80 winnings will be donated back to the club kitty.

No one cashed in on any of the other Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.75 added to it. As of this session we have paid out $211.600 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2007-2008 season.

The next session (June 19, 2008) shall feature the following contests:
• Anything BUT "OUT" Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that contains all three of the letters "O-U-T", in any order OTHER THAN O-U-T, somewhere within it. Words with OUT, in that order, will be tossed OUT of the competition. (e.g. CONATUS, SAUTOIRE, FAITOUR, TINAMOU, VITREOUS, BUOYANT, TURBOTS, THOUSAND, etc.).
• HI! Let's Have A Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letters "H" and "I", in any order, somewhere within it. (e.g. ANHINGA, AFGHANI, HIGHBOY, NOURISH, CHIGOES, MECHANIC, NEOLITH, SIDEHILL, QUAICHS, CHARQUID, etc.)
•Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - A sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
•100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - $8.39 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
•Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $6.72 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
•9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $4.67 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
