Session Notes - November 1, 2007 Session

This session marked the beginning and 1st week of NSA Club #565's 2007-2008 season!

This season will be our first full season as a two-tiered club with both a Recreational and a separate Tournament Rules Division. There will be some tweaking done as the Recreational Division develops.

We also have adopted the EXP rating system that I've been showcasing for the last two years as our official club rating system. Feel free to ask about it if need be.

We were joined by 3 tournament division players who played 10 games. Of the 13 recorded bingos we played, none were phoneys that went unchallenged.

Pat Madea and Anita Almond made up our recreational division this week. Each played one of their games against a tournament division player. Click here for a roster of Recreational Players

Some numbers and whatnot for this tournament session include:

Some interesting bingos:

We featured two regular and one repeat contests this week.

The first regular contest was the Beginning Of The Season Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that begins with either "B" or "S". Mickey Matz' SCREAMER (74 pts) screamed out for attention, but Ed Saunders strafed the field with his 88 pt STRAFES and flies away with the $2.25 prize.

The second regular contest was the "X" Marks The Pot Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letter "X" somewhere within it. The old standby "X" play XI showed up twice for 50 and 38 pts, but Ed Saunders reached deep into his bag of fauna trivia and pulled out ADDAXES for 85 pts and earns the $2.25 that goes with the win.

The REPEAT Contest was the Play It Again, Sam! Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that is the name of a musical instrument. Ed Saunders completed his sweep of the weekly prizes by becoming a FIFE player (15 pts) and cashing in to the tune of $3.75.

Due to the expenses connected with starting the new Northwest Club and expected expenses involved in preparation for the launch of the club's tournament ventures. Ed Saunders is going to donate any of the prizes he wins in the weekly contests this season back to the club kitty. So $8.25 comes back to the club this week.

No one cashed in on any of the Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.56 added to it. As of this session we have paid out $8.25 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2007-2008 season.

The next session (November 8th) shall feature the following contests:
The Name Of The Game Contest -November 8, 1836 was the birthdate of Milton Bradley, whose company is one of the few that have produced the Scrabble Brand Crossword Game. In honor of this event, a quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of an acceptable word that is the name of a recognizable game. (e.g. BEZIQUE, EUCHRES, DOMINOS, SCRABBLE, MAHJONG, CHECKERS, CANASTA, CHARADES, etc.).
"DO" You Wanna Win This Contest? - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that contains the couplet "DO" in that order somewhere within it. (e.g. DOGMATIC, ADORABLE, MADONNA, TANDOOR, PERIDOTS, COLORADO, CELADON, etc.).
Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $3.92 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - $2.06 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $4.48 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $2.43 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
