The Rules
The "Special Letter" Bingo Contest is a contest played over the course
of 26 sessions of the 2006-2007 season in NSA Club #565.
Each session of the "Special Letter" Bingo Contest shall have
a different letter of the alphabet assigned to it. The
sequence of these letters was determined by random
draw on December 28, 2006 from a tile bag containing
one of each of the 26 letters of the alphabet.
The object of the "Special Letter" Bingo Contest is to play bingos
that use the session's designated "Special Letter" as the first* letter
of the bingo. For each bingo you play that uses that session's "Special
Letter" as the first* letter of the bingo, you score one point. In
addition, if the bingo you play contains that session's "Special Letter"
more than once, you will score one point for each extra "Special Letter"
the word contains. For instance, if the session's "Special Letter"
is A, and you played bingos that included ANGRIER,
ANGARIES, and ANGARIAS, you would score
six points -- three for using the A as the first*
letter in each of the bingos, one for the second A
in ANGARIES
, and one each for the second and third A in ANGARIAS.
Designating a blank as the session's "Special Letter" counts the same as playing the actual letter.
*Special Rule for sessions that have the letters
J, K, Q,
X, and Z assigned to them:
In those sessions that have the letters J, K,
Q, X, and Z
assigned to them, two points will be awarded for every bingo played that
begins with that letter, one point will be awarded for any bingo
not starting with , but containing
that letter, and one additional point will be awarded for each
additional occurrence of that letter in the word. For instance, if
the session's "Special Letter" is K,
and you played bingos that included KYANIZE, YAKKING,
and KRUMKAKE, you would score eight points --
four (two each) for using the K as the first letter
in KYANIZE and KRUMKAKE,
one for playing the bingo YAKKING which contains
a K but does not begin with
it, one for the second K in YAKKING,
and one each for the second and third K in KRUMKAKE.
(Any second or third occurrence of J, K,
Q, X, or Z
would require designating a blank as that letter.)
Each session, one dollar will be taken out of the dues collected (50 cents will be deducted from prizes for each of the two regular weekly contests) and added to the "Special Letter" Bingo Jackpot. At the end of the contest, the player with the most points will win $13, the player with the second highest number of points shall win $8, and the player with the third highest number of points shall win $5. In the event of a tie, the prizes that are tied for shall be added together and divided equally between the entrants who are tied.
