Session Notes - 31 May 2007 Session
IMPORTANT!!!. . . .Adjustment to club schedule!!!. . . .Due to a variety of reasons, there will be no one available to run club # 565 on June 28th or July 5th. Therefore there will be no club meetings on those two dates. Please mark this on your calendars. Club will resume play as usual on July 12th.
This session marked the thirtieth of NSA Club #565's 2006-2007 season!
Monique Kornell tuned up for her Canadian trip and the Calgary Tournament on the weekend of June 9th by going 4-0 +298 and taking top honors for the session. Watch out, Canada! She appears to be ready.
We were joined by 5 players who played 11 games in which we scored 8,361 points for a 760.0909 (380.0445 ind) point-per-game average. Of the 30 recorded bingos we played, two were phonies that went unchallenged.
Some numbers and whatnot for this session include:
- High Game - 530 points by Ed Saunders
- Low Win - 370 points by Morgan Gilbert
- High Loss - 379 points by Ed Saunders (Opponent at 392)
- Bingo King - Ed Saunders for averaging 2.2000 bingos per game

- On The Pitfalls of Playing at a Restaurant Judy Carlock's take: Here I am, running out of time and trying to concentrate so I can bingo out and win my game with Ed, and the man behind me is on his cell phone, reading the ENTIRE Denny's menu to his wife loud enough for her and half the restaurant to hear. Finally, he gets her order and hangs up. Then she calls back for directions to the restaurant!!! I play DeRIVANT* on the bottom triple-word line from the D. It's no good and is challenged off. I miss GRAVIToN AND GRIeVANT on the top triple-word line from the G. I lose the game and run 3 minutes over!!!

with "A" being the "Special Letter"

week. Ed Saunders holds a commanding lead with 4 weeks to go. Lewis Saul
and Karen Lundeen are currently tied for second and third only 1 game ahead
of the pack.
We featured two regular contests this week.
The first regular contest was the Leaves of Grass Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that pertains to poetry or verse of some sort. Somehow, we managed only one entry for this contest and, in a classic bit of "poetic" justice ("Take one down and pass it around" . . .), Ed Saunders points out that. . . .Without DRINKERS, no one would know the words to "99 Bottles of Beer". (78 pts)
The second regular contest was the "X" Marks the Pot Contest
for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letter "X"
somewhere within it. All five players submitted
entries for this one. Monique Kornell played AXED
for 23 pts, Lewis Saul turned in DEX for 51 pts,
Ed Saunders XI for 52 and Judy Carlock also racked
up 52 pts for EX.
Morgan Gilbert made the winning play, however, with EXTRUDER
for 101 points.
Ed and Morgan each walk away with $3.25 for their efforts.
Monique Kornell and Morgan Gilbert each made an assault on the 100+ Play Progressive Jackpot this week. Morgan played the above-mentioned EXTRUDER for 101 pts and Monique managed 109 points with FRONTES. Monique and Morgan will split the $5.60 prize.
No one cashed in on any of the other Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.93 added to it. As of this session we have paid out $311.09 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2006-2007 season.
The next session (07 June) shall feature the following contests:
•Special Letter Bingo Contest - Week twenty-three
- This week's "Special Letter" is "U".
Any Bingo beginning with the letter "U"
will earn one point. In addition, one point will
be awarded for each additional occurrence of the "Special Letter"

• Funny Pages Contest - On June 7, 1942, the
first "Superman" comic book was published. In honor of this event,
a quarter of dues collected (less 50 cents) shall be awarded to the highest
scoring play of a word pertaining to comic books or comic strips. (e.g.
SUPERMAN, PEANUTS, DAGWOOD, CAVEMAN, BEAGLES, VERONICA, PLANKTON, ANGELICA,
PANTHER, RIDDLER, PENGUIN, UNDERDOG, etc.) . To qualify for this contest,
you need to write a sentence connecting your word to comic books or comic
strips in some manner. If you can make the connection, you might win some
"FUNNIES" money.
•Compound It! Contest -A quarter of dues collected
(less 50 cents) shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest
scoring play of a compound word (e.g. BOWFINS, OARFISH, LONGBOAT, SAWMILL,
LOGJAMS, WATCHDOG, RIPTIDE, HIGHWAY, etc.).
•Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $5.60
plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who
scores a Triple-Triple
play.
•100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - A sixteenth
of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more
points in a single play
•Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $10.46 plus
a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores
565 or more points in a single game.
•9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $6.16 plus
a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays
a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
