Session Notes - August 30, 2007 Session

This session marked the forty-first of NSA Club #565's 2006-2007 season!

With the August 2nd session, we began play with our new format, incorporating a Recreational Division into the club structure. Recreational players will not be charged formal dues, but a $2.00 optional prize fee will be charged to those who choose to enter the weekly contests (Recreational and Tournament Contests will be separate and will vary). Tournament Rules Division players will continue to be charged $3.00 weekly dues to cover club expenses and fund weekly prizes as in the past.

We were joined by 2 tournament players who played 8 games. Of the 12 recorded bingos we played, two were phonies that went unchallenged.

Some numbers and whatnot for this session include:

Some interesting bingos:

We featured one repeat and two regular contests this week.

The repeat was the Pilgrim's Pride Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that pertains to the life and times of the early American Settlers. Ed Saunders picked up the $2.25 prize with "Though the Pilgrims did not relish the time and effort spent separating the grain from the CHAFF on the threshing room floor, they knew there would be enough bread for the winter." 44 pts

The first regular contest was the "Not So Well, Thank You." Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that pertains to an illness or disease of some sort. Monique Kornell chipped in with "He looked DEATHLY ill." for 42 points. Ed Saunders reminisced about his own personal medical history with "His HERNIAL condition was impossible to work through, so he resigned himself to having the surgery." 74 pts. Ed's extensive medical experience earns him $1.50 this week.

The second regular contest was the Happy Face Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that exudes happiness or joy. Monique Kornell put a zing in her step with "Her new haircut put a ZING in her step." 42 pts and goes skipping merrily down the road with the $1.50 prize.

Ed Saunders managed to squeak out a 100+Play, finding THICKEST for 101 pts and pulls in $1.49 for his effort.

No one cashed in on any of the other Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.37 added to it. As of this session we have paid out $414.12 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2006-2007 season.

The next session (September 6) shall feature the following contests:
"You Might Be a Redneck, If. . . ." Contest -Jeff Foxworthy was born on September 6, 1958. A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that pertains to , or perpetuates, the comic stereotype of the native American Redneck. (e.g. TRAILERS, BOOZING, FISHING, PICKUPS, COUSINS, BARROOM, COUNTRY, DRAWLED, REDNECKS, etc.). To qualify for this contest, you need to write a sentence connecting your word to rednecks or redneck behavior in some manner. If you can make the connection, you might win enough to get yourself a six pack.
The "Z" Play Contest -A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letter "Z" somewhere within it. (e.g. ZAREEBAS, AZIMUTH, BEZOARS, DITZIEST, NERTZES, KOHOLZY, KIBBUTZ, JAROVIZE, etc.).
Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $0.93 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - A sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
