Session Notes - 29 March 2007 Session

This session marked the twenty-first of NSA Club #565's 2006-2007 season!

Update on Judith Whitcomb. . . .Bob Whitcomb joined us after his visit with Judith on thursday. We are happy to pass along the news that Judith's hip replacement surgery went well, and that she is progressing nicely. We hope that the recovery period continues to go well and, though Bob indicated it may still be some weeks away, we look forward to her return to club play.

We were joined by 3 players who played 7 games in which we scored 5,199 points for a 742.7143 (371.3571 ind) point-per-game average. Of the 18 recorded bingos we played, none was a phony that went unchallenged.

Some numbers and whatnot for this session include:

Some interesting bingos:

This was the thirteenth week of the "Special Letter Bingo Contest" with "H" being the "Special Letter" for the week. Click here for rules and current standings Ed Saunders scored this week's only point and now holds a 5 point lead.

We featured two regular contests and two repeats this week.

The first repeat was the Take Me For a Ride in Your Car Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that pertains to cars or activities involving cars. Karen Lundeen had the only entry and picks up the $2.50 prize for "His steering wheel SPINNER (remember those. . . .?) was the coolest one in school." 75 points

The second repeat was the "BE" The Verb Contest for the highest scoring play of a verb utilizing the prefix "BE" as a prefix. No entries were received for this contest again, so it will "BE" coming back again next week as well. $2.50 will "BE" in the pocket of a winner.

The first regular contest was the Sounds of Silence Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that pertains to sounds or the means by which they are produced. Ed Saunders had the only entry here with "The QUIET in the room was oppressive." for 28 points. $1.75 slips noiselessly into Ed's pocket.

The second regular (uh. . . .normal, maybe?) contest was the Not Your Reg-ULA-r Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that uses the letters U-L-A in a group of three but in any order. Ed Saunders jumped up and won this prize, also $1.75, with his 16 point play of VAULT.

The 9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot fell to Ed Saunders' ATROPINES (61 pts) played through an existing "PI" on the board. Ed picks up another $5.05 for finding this play.

No one cashed in on any of the other Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.56 added to it. As of this session we have paid out $252.68 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2006-2007 season.

The next session (05 April) shall feature the following contests:
Special Letter Bingo Contest - Week fourteen - This week's "Special Letter" is "M". Any Bingo beginning with the letter "M" will earn one point. In addition, one point will be awarded for each additional occurrence of the "Special Letter" within the word. Click here for rules and current standings
"BE" The Verb Contest - Maybe this time, $2.50 shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word utilizing the prefix "BE" as a prefix (e.g. BEDAUBS, BELADIES, BESMIRCH, etc.) A verb such as BETTERED, which is merely a word that begins with "BE", will "BE" disqualified.
That Ship Was Like a Zoo Contest - Some Biblical scholars believe that Noah's Ark came to ground at Mt. Ararat on what would now be April 5th. In honor of this event, a quarter of dues collected (less 50 cents) shall be awarded to the highest scoring play of a word pertaining to animals (e.g. GIRAFFE, ROADKILL, DORMICE, CHEETAH, HYAENAS, TUATARA, COYPOUS, UNICORN, AXOLOTL, CRITTER, HOPTOAD, VARMINT, WARTHOG, CAPRINE, etc.). To qualify for this contest, you need to write a sentence connecting your word to animals in some manner. Make the connection and you might be able to SQUIRREL some money away this week.
The "ILL" Gotten Gains Contest -A quarter of dues collected (less 50 cents) shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word containing the word "ILL" somewhere within it (e.g. ILLUVIAL, MANDRILL, ZORILLO, BILLETS, TRILLED, MILLIONS, SAWMILL, HILLSIDE, etc.)
Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $6.17 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - $2.62 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $4.30 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - A sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
