Wishing all of you the happiest, healthiest, and most prosperous of New Years!
This session marked the eighth of NSA Club #565's 2006-2007 season!
We again enjoyed the pleasant company of visitor Sandra Masel (Melbourne, Australia) who will be leaving New Year's Eve for the land down under. We were joined by 5 players who played 12 games in which we scored 9,096 points for a 758 (379 ind) point-per-game average. Of the 33 recorded bingos we played, none was a phony that went unchallenged.
Some numbers and whatnot for this session include:
Some interesting bingos:
We featured two contests this session. The first was the Endangered Species
Contest for the highest scoring play of or pertaining to a species considered
to be endangered or extinct or of a word representative of a bygone era
in history. We had two entries for this contest. Naurlene Canterman submitted
ICEBERGS (39 pts) - Endangered animals such as polar bears are affected
by lack of ICEBERGS. Lewis Saul wins it, though, with OCEANAUT (80 pts)
- The OCEANAUT discovered a cave with many endangered species of fish.
The second was the Happy New Year Contest, awarded to the highest scoring
play of a word that pertains to the new year, its celebrations, its expectations,
whatever. . . . There were three entries in this contest with Lewis Saul
again picking up the prize for SMOLDER (81 pts) - The crowd SMOLDERed with
excitement as the ball began to drop.
Lewis picks up a cool $7.50 for the evening.
No one cashed in on any of the Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall
have $0.93 added to it. As of this session we have paid out $123.48 in prizes
this season. Click
here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2006-2007 season.
The next session (04 January) shall feature the following contests:
•Special Letter Bingo Contest - This week
we begin a new Bingo contest which will be conducted over the next 26 weeks.
This week's "Special Letter" is "G". Any Bingo beginning
with the letter "G" will earn one point. In addition, one point
will be awarded for each additional occurrence of the "Special Letter"
within the word. Click
here for rules and current standings
•Currency Contest - On January 4, 1999, the
European Economic Community adopted the Euro as the single European Currency.
In honor of this event, a quarter of dues collected (less 50 cents) shall
be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of an accepted
form of currency, present or past, local or foreign. To qualify for this
contest, the word must appear in, and be defined as a form of currency by,
the OSPD4. (e.g. PATACAS, DALASIS, CENTIME, SANTIMI, DRACHMS, WAMPUMS, etc.)
•Low Powered Contest - A quarter of dues collected
(less 50 cents) shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest
scoring play of a word that contains no letters whose tiles are worth more
than one point. Blanks may be used, but may not be designated as a letter
normally worth more than one point.
•Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $0.93
plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who
scores a Triple-Triple
play.
