This session marked the twenty-ninth of NSA Club #565's 2006-2007 season!
This week we welcomed Morgan Gilbert to the club and he jumped right into club scrabble with a 94 point phony bingo on his opening play.
Richard and Phyllis Spence made a surprise appearance this week before Richard heads off to Europe for a few weeks as a reward for winning a Math contest at the Sonoran Science Academy this year.
And Bob and Judith Whitcomb played their final session before heading back to West Virginia for the summer. We'll see them again in October.
We were joined by 8 players who played 20 games in which we scored 14,658 points for a 732.9 (366.45 ind) point-per-game average. Of the 52 recorded bingos we played, five were phonies that went unchallenged.
Some numbers and whatnot for this session include:
Some interesting bingos:
This was the twenty-first week of the "Special Letter Bingo Contest"
with "O" being the "Special Letter"
for the week. Click
here for rules and current standings Richard Spence again scored the
only point this week. Ed Saunders still holds a substantial lead with 5
weeks to go.
We featured two regular contests this week.
The first regular contest was the Warm Enough For You? Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that pertains to temperature. Lewis Saul submitted "The girls were HOTTIES. (67 pts) It was 102 degrees out!" but Ed Saunders cooled him off with "With temperatures hovering around the 20 degree mark for the fifth straight day, the ice skaters were out on the frozen lake practising their salchows and LUTZES." (77 pt nonbingo)
The second regular contest was the What's a Mantra With You? Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the mantra "OM" somewhere within it. Morgan Gilbert concentrated on an ATOM for 14 pts but Ed Saunders reflected on a BIOME for 25 pts and the winner.
Ed skates away with $9.50 for the evening.
No one cashed in on any of the Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $1.31 added to it. As of this session we have paid out $298.99 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2006-2007 season.
The next session (31 May) shall feature the following contests:
•Special Letter Bingo Contest - Week twenty-two
- This week's "Special Letter" is "A".
Any Bingo beginning with the letter "A"

sort. (e.g. POETICS, PROSODY, LIMERICK, BALLADS, RIMESTER, METRICAL, LYRICIST,
SONNETS, RHYMING, IDYLIST, CANTICLE, etc.) . To qualify for this contest,
you need to write a sentence connecting your word to poetry or verse in
some manner. If you can connect it to verse, you might get some coins for
your purse.
