Session Notes - August 23, 2007 Session

This session marked the fortieth of NSA Club #565's 2006-2007 season!

With the August 2nd session, we began play with our new format, incorporating a Recreational Division into the club structure. Recreational players will not be charged formal dues, but a $2.00 optional prize fee will be charged to those who choose to enter the weekly contests (Recreational and Tournament Contests will be separate and will vary). Tournament Rules Division players will continue to be charged $3.00 weekly dues to cover club expenses and fund weekly prizes as in the past.

We were joined by 3 tournament players who played 10 games. Of the 13 recorded bingos we played, two were phonies that went unchallenged.

Phyllis Spence was our lone recreational player at this session.

Some numbers and whatnot for this session include:

Some interesting bingos:

We featured one repeat and two regular contests this week.

The repeat was the Pilgrim's Pride Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that pertains to the life and times of the early American Settlers. This contest had no entries this week and will run again next week with $2.25 awaiting a winning entry.

The first regular contest was the "Damn The Torpedoes" Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that pertains to naval warfare. Ed Saunders had the lone entry and sails off with the $2.25 prize with "The warship fired a warning shot across the BOW before approaching the Galleon" 31 pts

The second regular contest was the Double "L" Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the couplet "LL" somewhere within it. Richard Spence submitted ALL (17 pts) and that was ALL it took to walk off with the $2.25 for this contest.

No one cashed in on any of the Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.56 added to it. As of this session we have paid out $407.38 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2006-2007 season.

The next session (30 August) shall feature the following contests:
Pilgrim's Pride Contest - Repeat - On August 16, 1620, the Pilgrims set out from England on the Mayflower to settle in America. In honor of this event, a quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the highest scoring play of a word that pertains to the life and times of the early American settlers. . . .(e.g. SAILING, HARDSHIP, VENISON, TURKEYS, WARRIORS, SETTLER, PILGRIMS, WOODSMEN, CABINED, NEIGHBOR, etc.) . To qualify for this contest, you need to write a sentence connecting your word to the life and times of the early American settlers in some manner. If you can make the connection, you might be thankful for your winnings.
"Not So Well, Thank You." Contest -On August 30, 1900, bubonic plague broke out in the city of Glasgow, Scotland. A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that pertains to an illness or disease of some sort. (e.g. BUBONIC, PLAGUES, LORDOSIS, ILEITIS, TUMOROUS, LYMPHOMA, MALARIA, STURDIES, TYPHOID, FEVERED, LUMBAGO, etc.). To qualify for this contest, you need to write a sentence connecting your word to an illness or disease in some manner. If you can make the connection, your finances may be on the mend.
Happy Face Contest -A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that exudes happiness or joy. (e.g. HAPPILY, JOYOUSLY, ECSTATIC, SMILING, BEAMING, EXCITED, PLEASURE, LAUGHTER, CHEERFUL, RIANTLY, etc.).
