Session Notes - 22 February 2007 Session

This session marked the sixteenth of NSA Club #565's 2006-2007 season!

We were joined by 6 players who played 16 games in which we scored 11,851 points for a 740.6875 (370.3438 ind) point-per-game average. Of the 34 recorded bingos we played, 2 were phonies that went unchallenged.

Some numbers and whatnot for this session include:

Some interesting bingos:

This was the eighth week of the "Special Letter Bingo Contest" with "N" being the "Special Letter" for the week. Click here for rules and current standings Two players managed to score points this week and Lewis Saul and Ed Saunders currently lead 3 other players by one point.

The first regular contest was the "A Walk in the Washington Woods" Contest, awarded to the player who turned in the highest scoring play of a word pertaining to trees, foreign or domestic, useful or just a pain in the ASH. There were no entries this week so this contest will run again next week with $4.00 waiting in the woods for a winner.

The second regular contest was the "SO You Want OS to Enter Your" Contest? for the highest scoring play of a word beginning or ending with either the letters "SO" or "OS". Ed Saunders had the only entry, combining OS, OX, and XU for a 38 point play. Make no bones about it, Ed picks up $4.00 for the play.

It was Judith Whitcomb's turn to claim the 100+ Play Progressive Jackpot this week. She managed to hook MATCHES onto the end of TETRAGON which ended, conveniently for Judith, one square short of a DWS. Judith scored 102 points and the $1.68 prize.

No one cashed in on any of the other Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $1.12 added to it. As of this session we have paid out $224.13 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2006-2007 season.

The next session (01 March) shall feature the following contests:
Special Letter Bingo Contest - Week nine- This week's "Special Letter" is "T". Any Bingo beginning with the letter "T" will earn one point. In addition, one point will be awarded for each additional occurrence of the "Special Letter" within the word. Click here for rules and current standings
A Walk in the Washington Woods Contest - A rerun of last week's contest that had no entries. $4.00 shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word pertaining to trees, foreign or domestic, useful or just a pain in the ASH. (e.g. CATALPA, ACACIAS, COCOBOLA, KABIKIS, WALNUTS, TIMBERS, LOGJAMS, etc.) To qualify for this contest, you must write a sentence clearly connecting your word to trees in some fashion. Make the connection and , who knows, your entry might just bear fruit.
The Wonders of Nature Contest - On March 1st, 1872, President Ulysses S. Grant signed The Yellowstone National Park Act withdrawing lands from the public domain for use as a "public park or pleasuring ground" for the "preservation, from injury or spoliation, of all timber, mineral deposits, natural curiosities, or wonders. . .and their retention in their natural condition." This resulted in the designation of Yellowstone as the first "National Park" in the entire world. In honor of this occasion, a quarter of dues collected (less 50 cents) shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word pertaining to timber, mineral deposits, natural curiosities, or wonders (e.g. GEYSERS, WILDLIFE, BIGHORN, OBSIDIAN, VACATION, EAGLETS, CANYONS, FAITHFUL, CHIPMUNK, LAKESIDE, WILDFIRE, FLOWERS, SEQUOIA, BACKPACK, TROUTIER, RANGERS, MOUNTAIN, BUFFALO, TITMOUSE, CAMPING, etc.). To qualify for this contest, you must write a sentence clearly connecting your word to the Wonders of Nature. If you make the connection and yours is the highest scoring word, well then, naturally we'll give you the prize.
It's All About "ME" Contest -A quarter of dues collected (less 50 cents) shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word containing the word "ME" somewhere within it (e.g. MENISCI, IMMENSE, ZONETIME, AMENDED, LAMELLAS, HOMEBOY, DEGAMES, etc.). METHINKS SOMEONE will be able to win this prize.
Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $3.55 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $1.68 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $2.43 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
