Session Notes - 11 January 2007 Session

This session marked the tenth of NSA Club #565's 2006-2007 season!

We were a sparse crew of scrabblers this week as other things occupied the time of almost all our players.

Lewis Saul and Ed Saunders played 6 games in which we scored 5,068 points for an 844.67 (422.33 ind) point-per-game average. Of the 23 recorded bingos we played, 3 were phonies that went unchallenged.

Some numbers and whatnot for this session include:

Some interesting bingos:

This was the second week of the "Special Letter Bingo Contest" with "I" being the "Special Letter" for the week. Click here for rules and current standings There were no points scored this week. Ed Saunders holds a slim lead with 1 point thus far.

We also featured two regular contests this session. The first was the Equal Rights Contest for the highest scoring play of a word pertaining to any Equal Rights or the pursuit thereof. There were no entries for this contest so it will run again next week with $1.00 awaiting a winner.

The second was the Equal Time (MAN/MEN) Contest, awarded to the highest scoring play of a word that contains either the word MAN or the word MEN somewhere within it. Ed Saunders picked up this prize with a 15 point play of MEN and takes home the $1.00 prize.

Lewis Saul had yet another winner in the 100+ Play Progressive Jackpot with his 100 point play of VISCOID but this week he has to share his $0.37 prize with Ed Saunders, who totaled 101 points on his play of SHEITAN. (They'll sit down and figure out an equitable split next week.)

No one cashed in on any of the other Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.37 added to it. As of this session we have paid out $137.59 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2006-2007 season.

The next session (18 January) shall feature the following contests:
Special Letter Bingo Contest - Week Three - This week's "Special Letter" is "W". Any Bingo beginning with the letter "W" will earn one point. In addition, one point will be awarded for each additional occurrence of the "Special Letter" within the word. Click here for rules and current standings
Intercollegiate Sports Contest - On January 18, 1896, Amos Alonzo Stagg led his University of Chicago Basketball team into Iowa City for an experimental game against the University of Iowa in a new sport. It marked the first time a college basketball game had been played with five players on each side. The University of Chicago prevailed by a final score of 15 to 12. In honor of this event, a quarter of dues collected (less 50 cents) shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word pertaining to any intercollegiate sport (e.g. BASEBALL, LACROSSE, FENCING, RACQUET, BASKETS, GOALIES, CHEERLED, BLOCKING, etc.). To qualify for this contest, you must write a sentence clearly connecting your word to Intercollegiate Sports in some way. Make the connection and you'll have a sporting chance of winning the prize.
I Think I CAN Win This Contest - A quarter of dues collected (less 50 cents) shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that contains the word CAN somewhere within it. (e.g. CANNOLI, OILCANS, PELICAN, ACANTHUS, PECCANT, CANOODLE, etc.)
Equal Rights Contest - A rerun of last week's contest. $1.00 shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that pertains to any equal rights or the pursuit thereof (e.g. ELECTION, BOYCOTT, BRALESS, SUFFRAGE, CONGRESS, BUSSING, AGEISMS, HANDICAP, etc.). To qualify for this contest, you must write a sentence clearly connecting your word to Equal Rights in some way. Make the connection and you'll have an equal chance of winning the prize.
Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $2.61 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - A sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $17.18 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $13.75 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
