Session Notes - 10 May 2007 Session

This session marked the twenty-seventh of NSA Club #565's 2006-2007 season!

Lone Tucson representative Ed Saunders enjoyed the company of visiting players Matt Breden (Hampton, Virginia) and Sarah Jacobson (Sherman Oaks, California). Despite the paucity of players, some good Scrabble was played and a good time was had by all.

We were joined by 3 players who played 8 games in which we scored 5,935 points for a 741.875 (370.9375 ind) point-per-game average. Of the 22 recorded bingos we played, none was a phony that went unchallenged.

Some numbers and whatnot for this session include:

Some interesting bingos:

This was the nineteenth week of the "Special Letter Bingo Contest" with "K" being the "Special Letter" for the week. Click here for rules and current standings No points were scored this week. Ed Saunders holds a substantial lead with 7 weeks to go.

We featured two regular contests this week.

The first regular contest was the Golden Spike Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that pertains to connections or joinings of any sort. Visiting player Matt Breden had the only two entries for this contest with ENGRAFT for 94 points and MORTISE.

The second regular contest was the "O,U" Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that has either of the letter combos "OU" or "UO" somewhere within it. Matt Breden submitted LOUSIER for 68 points, but Ed Saunders triple-hooked SOURING onto the board for 74 points and the win.

Both Matt and Ed take home $0.25 prizes for their efforts.

No one cashed in on any of the Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.18 added to it. As of this session we have paid out $284.49 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2006-2007 season.

The next session (17 May) shall feature the following contests:
Special Letter Bingo Contest - Week twenty - This week's "Special Letter" is "F". Any Bingo beginning with the letter "F" will earn one point. In addition, one point will be awarded for each additional occurrence of the "Special Letter" within the word. Click here for rules and current standings
Derby Day Contest - On May 17, 1875, the first Kentucky Derby was held at the Louisville Jockey Club. In honor of this event, a quarter of dues collected (less 50 cents) shall be awarded to the highest scoring play of a word pertaining to the Kentucky Derby or horses in general (e.g. JOCKEYS, WINNERS, BOURBON, STRETCH, WITHERS, SADDLES, FETLOCK, MUDDERS, PALOMINO, etc.) . To qualify for this contest, you need to write a sentence connecting your word to the Kentucky Derby or horses in some manner. Make the connection and you might ride off into the sunset with this week's prize.
"CON" Test Contest -A quarter of dues collected (less 50 cents) shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that CONtains the word "CON" somewhere within it (e.g. , CONDUIT, ANACONDA, SOUPCON, GARCONS, TACONITE, INCONNU, ALENCON, etc.).
