Session Notes - August 9, 2007 Session

This session marked the thirty-eighth of NSA Club #565's 2006-2007 season!

We enjoyed the company of Sarah Jacobson, visiting from Sherman Oaks, CA. Sarah will be moving to Tucson at the end of the year and we look forward to having her with us full time in the future.

With the August 2nd session, we began play with our new format, incorporating a Recreational Division into the club structure. Recreational players will not be charged formal dues, but a $2.00 optional prize fee will be charged to those who choose to enter the weekly contests (Recreational and Tournament Contests will be separate and will vary). Tournament Rules Division players will continue to be charged $3.00 weekly dues to cover club expenses and fund weekly prizes as in the past.

We were joined by 4 tournament players who played 18 games. Of the 23 recorded bingos we played, one was a phony that went unchallenged.

Leslie Weber was the lone recreational player at this session.

Some numbers and whatnot for this session include:

Some interesting bingos:

We featured two regular contests this week.

The first regular contest was the Recreational Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that pertains to recreational activities. Ed Saunders had the only valid entry with "The tennis player took first place in the REGIONAL finals." (70 pts) and scores a $3.00 local prize.

The second regular contest was the "Where Was That, Again?" Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that describes a particular or general place or location. Karen Lundeen played GLEN for 15 points. Ed Saunders managed 70 points for REGIONAL. But Richard Spence went down in the TRENCHES for 85 points and climbed back out with the $3.00 prize.

Three of the Progressive Jackpots fell this week. Richard Spence led the assault with a 570 point game to cash out the Club 565 Progressive Jackpot. He also had the season's 7th Triple-Triple with TREADING for 131 points. Richard picks up $2.42 for the 3x3 and $1.12 for the Club 565 Jackpot. Ed Saunders walked off into the woods with his 100 point play of HERMITS and took along $3.17 for his efforts.

No one cashed in on the 9+Bingo Progressive Jackpot this week and it shall have $0.75 added to it. As of this session we have paid out $400.07 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2006-2007 season.

The next session (16 August) shall feature the following contests:
Pilgrim's Pride Contest - On August 16, 1620, the Pilgrims set out from England on the Mayflower to settle in America. In honor of this event, a quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the highest scoring play of a word that pertains to the life and times of the early American settlers. . . .(e.g. SAILING, HARDSHIP, VENISON, TURKEYS, WARRIORS, SETTLER, PILGRIMS, WOODSMEN, CABINED, NEIGHBOR, etc.) . To qualify for this contest, you need to write a sentence connecting your word to the life and times of the early American settlers in some manner. If you can make the connection, you might be thankful for your winnings.
Take Me For a Ride Contest -A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a valid word that is the name of or for an automobile. (e.g. MERCURY, VOYAGER, FLIVVER, ROADSTER, CHEVIES, FIREBIRD, MUSTANG, WOODIES, JAGUARS, RAMBLER, etc.). Your word needs to be recognizable as an automobile.
Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - A sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - A sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - A sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $2.42 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
