Session Notes - 08 March 2007 Session

This session marked the eighteenth of NSA Club #565's 2006-2007 season!

We were joined by 4 players who played 8 games in which we scored 5,797 points for a 724.625 (362.3125 ind) point-per-game average. Of the 19 recorded bingos we played, none was a phony that went unchallenged.

Some numbers and whatnot for this session include:

Some interesting bingos:

This was the tenth week of the "Special Letter Bingo Contest" with "C" being the "Special Letter" for the week. Click here for rules and current standings Only one point was scored this week and Ed Saunders holds a four point lead.

We featured two contests this week.

The first contest was The Women We Have Known Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that appears in OWL2 and can be used as a woman's first name. Bob Whitcomb turned in the only entry for this contest, scoring a modest, but sufficient, 7 points for his play of MIM. (Mim Pride happening to be the name of the President of Blackburn College, which happens to be Bob's alma mater.) This tidbit from Bob's personal history wins him the $2.50 prize and, once again, shows the increased earning potential available with a college education.

The second regular contest was the Time to Toe the Line Contest for the highest scoring play of a word containing the letters L-I-N-E, in any order, somewhere within it. Judith Whitcomb stepped to the fore with her 74 point play of LISTENS and heads on down the line with her $2.50 prize.

No one cashed in on any of the Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.75 added to it. As of this session we have paid out $238.13 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2006-2007 season.

The next session (15 March) shall feature the following contests:
Special Letter Bingo Contest - Week eleven - This week's "Special Letter" is "J". (See "Special Rule" in Contest Rules) Any Bingo beginning with the letter "J" will earn two points. In addition, one point will be awarded for any bingo which contains the "Special Letter" but does not begin with it, and one point will be awarded for each additional occurrence of the "Special Letter" within the word. Click here for rules and current standings
The Wild Coast of Maine Contest - On March 15, 1820, Maine became the twenty-third state in the Union. In honor of this occasion, a quarter of dues collected (less 50 cents) shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that pertains to coastal waters, industries, cuisine, recreation, or the like (e.g. SEACOAST, LOBSTER, SEAFOOD, CLIPPERS, SURFING, HALIBUT, SHRIMPER, COASTAL, HARBORS, NAUTICAL, SAILBOAT, CHOWDER, DOCKSIDE, etc.) To qualify for this contest, you need to write a sentence connecting your word to seacoasts in some manner. Make the connection (and have the highest play) and I guarantee we won't leave you high and dry without the prize.
HMM? Does that "ING" Take an "S"? Contest -A quarter of dues collected (less 50 cents) shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that can end in either "ING" or "INGS" (e.g. BIRDING/S, SKIING/S, ERLKING/S, COVING/S, NOSING/S, FOXING/S, LASHING/S, BIGGING/S, FLYTING/S, etc.) You may play either form to qualify.
Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $5.05 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - $1.50 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $3.18 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $3.93 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
