This session marked the fourteenth of NSA Club #565's 2006-2007 season!
We were joined by 4 players who played 11 games in which we scored 8,567 points for a 778.8182 (389.4091 ind) point-per-game average. Of the 37 recorded bingos we played, 3 were phonies that went unchallenged.
Some numbers and whatnot for this session include:
Some interesting bingos:
This was the sixth week of the "Special Letter Bingo Contest"
with "B" being the "Special Letter"
for the week. Click
here for rules and current standings Josh Kassel scored the only point
this week and Lewis Saul maintains a one point lead over Josh, Ed, and Karen.
The first regular contest was the I Was Just Reading About This Contest,
awarded to the highest scoring play of a word that pertains to any form
of literature, books, or writings of any sort. Lewis Saul had two entries
in this contest. The highest scoring one was disqualified for using the
verb that he played as a noun
in the sentence he submitted. "Verne had massive HEARTING when "20,000"
was published.". His second entry was valid (if a bit obscure). "Poe
DERAIGNS (ed. -disputes the claim of) the authorship
of Verne's latest short story." (75). The other valid entry in this
contest was from Ed Saunders. "Ed spends several minutes each week
writing up these weekly CONTESTS." (74) Lewis
scores $2.50 for his efforts.
The second regular contest was the Let's Have "AE" Contest for the highest scoring play of a word containing the vowel combo "AE" anywhere within the word. We had two valid entries for this contest with Josh Kassel submitting HAE for 26 points, but when Lewis Saul played HEARTING he also hooked an E with the A to form AE in a 91 point play. Lewis picks up another $2.50 for this play.
Lewis walks off with $5.00 for the evening..
Ed Saunders took another shot at the 100+ Play Progressive Jackpot, tallying 102 points for his TWS play of PRECUTS, and getting away with the $.75 prize. This makes 12 times in 14 weeks that the 100 point plateau has been reached without benefit of a triple-triple.
Ed also cashed in big on the Club 565 Progressive Jackpot, posting the highest single game played thus far at club this season with a 578 pointer and taking home the $21.29 prize.
Ed goes home $22.04 richer than he was before.
No one cashed in on the other two Progressive Jackpots this week and each
shall have $.75 added to it. As of this session we have paid out $214.95
in prizes this season. Click
here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2006-2007 season.
The next session (15 February) shall feature the following contests:
•Special Letter Bingo Contest - Week Seven
- This week's "Special Letter" is "E"
Any Bingo beginning with the letter "E"
will earn one point. In addition, one point will be awarded for each additional
occurrence of the "Special Letter" within the word. Click
here for rules and current standings
•Never Too Late For Love Contest - For those
of you who may have forgotten, February 14th is/was Valentine's
Day. In honor of this occasion, a quarter of dues collected (less 50 cents)
shall be awarded to the player who turns in the play, regardless of score,
most representative of the Spirit of Valentine's
Day (e.g. CHERUBIC, ARCHERS, AMOROUS, TENDERLY, FLOWERS, CANDIES, KISSING,
CHERISH, LINGERIE, PASSION, DIAMONDS, JEWELRY, CUDDLING, etc.). To qualify
for this contest, you must write a sentence that connects your word to Valentine's
Day or to the state of being in love. If you can also express the spirit
of the Holiday in your sentence, so much the better. I'd truly love
to give you this prize. (I may recruit an impartial judge or judges for
this contest at the Phoenix tournament if entries merit.)
•"Remember The Maine" Contest -
Just to balance things up. . . .On February 15, 1898, the battleship U.S.S.
Maine exploded in the harbor of Havana, Cuba, killing 266 of the 354 crew
members and leading to a naval blockade of Cuba and the beginning of the
Spanish-American War by the end of April. In memory of this event, a quarter
of dues collected (less 50 cents) shall be awarded to the player who turns
in the highest scoring play of a word pertaining to any War or any aspect
of warfare in general. (e.g. BLOCKADE, AIRLIFT, INFANTRY, DOGFIGHT, ZAREBAS,
CAVALRY, THEATER, CLAYMORE, JARHEAD, BROADAX, DIVISION, FATIGUES, CASUALTY,
AGITPROP, BOMBING, FOXHOLE, BIVOUAC, DEPLOYED, WARSHIP, HUMVEES, CANNONRY,
SIDEARMS, GUERILLA, etc.) To qualify for this contest, you must write a
sentence clearly connecting your word to War or warfare in general. Make
the connection and, if yours is the highest scoring play, we won't have
to fight about giving you the prize.

plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who
