Session Notes - 05 April 2007 Session

This session marked the twenty-second of NSA Club #565's 2006-2007 season!

We were happy to see old friend Dan Byrne from Lancaster, California walk through the door tonight and the return of Lewis Saul to the tables after a coupla months away taking care of a home emergency.

We were joined by 3 players who played 7 games in which we scored 5,590 points for a 798.5714 (399.2857 ind) point-per-game average. Of the 21 recorded bingos we played, two were phonies that went unchallenged.

Some numbers and whatnot for this session include:

Some interesting bingos:

This was the fourteenth week of the "Special Letter Bingo Contest" with "M" being the "Special Letter" for the week. Click here for rules and current standings Two players scored points this week and Ed Saunders now holds a 6 point lead.

We featured two regular contests and one repeat this week.

The repeat contest was the "BE" The Verb Contest for the highest scoring play of a verb utilizing the prefix "BE" as a prefix. Once again, no entries were received for this contest , so it will "BE" coming back again next week as well. Someday, $2.50 will "BE" in the pocket of a winner.

The first regular contest was the That Ship Was Like a Zoo! Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that pertains to animals. Lewis Saul raised some questions about the OX's relationship with " The OX (38 pts) waited on the 15th floor of Noah's Ark for Mrs. OX- - Who was late because she couldn't find her "ex". . . .Ed Saunders cleared up the mystery with this winning observation, "The WOLVES (44 pts) found an extra ox stowed away in one of Noah's lifeboats, so they ate him. . . ." $1.75 goes to Ed for solidifying the OX's relationship.

The second regular contest was the "ILL" Gotten Gains Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the word "ILL" somewhere within it. Dan Byrne followed "JILL" (57 pts) up the hill and wins the $1.75 prize and a pail of water to boot (pail not included).

Ed Saunders was sitting there, ready to drop STERNAL on the board for an 84 point Double-Double when Dan Byrne played MUNI, leaving the "I" open at position D15. Quickly reassessing the situation, Ed forsook the open Double- Double and laid down RETINALS through the "I" for a 131 point Triple-Triple and the accompanying jackpot. Ed picks up $6.73 for his board awareness.

Lewis Saul picked up the 100+ Play Progressive Jackpot with a 110 point play of STYRENE and walks away with $3.08 for knowing that word.

No one cashed in on either of the other Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.56 added to it. As of this session we have paid out $265.99 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2006-2007 season.

The next session (12 April) shall feature the following contests:
Special Letter Bingo Contest - Week fifteen - This week's "Special Letter" is "Q". Any Bingo beginning with the letter "Q" will earn two points (See "Special Rule" in Contest Rules). In addition, one point will be awarded for any bingo containing the "Special Letter" but NOT beginning with it and one point will be awarded for each additional occurrence of the "Special Letter" within the word. Click here for rules and current standings
"BE" The Verb Contest - Maybe this time, $2.50 shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word utilizing the prefix "BE" as a prefix (e.g. BEDAUBS, BELADIES, BESMIRCH, etc.) A verb such as BETTERED, which is merely a word that begins with "BE", will "BE" disqualified.
The Beginning of the End Contest - On April 12, 1776, North Carolina's Provincial Congress issued the "Halifax Resolves", the first formal call for American Sovereignty and independence from England. In honor of this event, a quarter of dues collected (less 50 cents) shall be awarded to the highest scoring play of a word pertaining to beginnings, endings, or change in general (e.g. BEGINNER, COMPLETE, REPLACE, PLANNING, DEBARKS, MORPHED, etc.). To qualify for this contest, you need to write a sentence connecting your word to beginnings, endings, or change in some manner. Make the connection and you might be able to IMPROVE your financial status this week.
The Generic High Play Contest -A quarter of dues collected (less 50 cents) shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play this week.
Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - A sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - A sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $4.86 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $0.56 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
