This session marked the ninth of NSA Club #565's 2006-2007 season!
We were happy to see old friend and Honorary Member Yvonne Knickerbocker make her way into the room for this session.
We were joined by 7 players who played 16 games in which we scored 12,034 points for a 752.125 (376.0625 ind) point-per-game average. Of the 38 recorded bingos we played, 2 were phonies that went unchallenged.
Some numbers and whatnot for this session include:
Some interesting bingos:
This was the first week of the "Special Letter Bingo Contest"
with "G" being the "Special Letter"
for the week. Click
here for rules and current standings Ed Saunders opened the scoring
with a one point bingo of GOPHERS.
We also featured two regular contests this session. The first was the Currency
Contest for the highest scoring play of an accepted form of currency, present
or past, local or foreign. Surprisingly, we had only one entry for this
contest. Lewis Saul hooked his bingo NUTRIAS on the end of AVO to form AVOS
(AVO - the 100th part of a PATACA - a monetary unit of Macao) for 73 points
and the win.
The second was the Low Powered Contest, awarded to the highest scoring play
of a word that contains no letters whose tiles are worth more than one point.
This contest had three entries. Josh Kassel (NOT from Pittsburgh) tossed
in the phony steelers* for 72 points; Lewis Saul
(who IS from Pittsburgh) played the aforementioned NUTRIAS for 73 points;
and Judith Whitcomb (NOT from Pittsburgh) wins it with TISANES
for 76 points.
Lewis and Judith both take home $5.25 .
Lewis Saul walked off with the 100+ Play Progressive Jackpot with his 112
point play of JAEGERS and earned himself $2.24 (or two cents for every point).
No one cashed in on any of the other Progressive Jackpots this week and
each shall have $1.31 added to it. As of this session we have paid out $136.22
in prizes this season. Click
here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2006-2007 season.
The next session (11 January) shall feature the following contests:
•Special Letter Bingo Contest - Week Two -
This week's "Special Letter" is "I".
Any Bingo beginning with the letter "I"
will earn one point. In addition, one point will be awarded for each additional
occurrence of the "Special Letter" within the word. Click
here for rules and current standings
•Equal Rights Contest - On January 11, 1885,
Alice Paul, a major activist in the Woman's Suffrage Movement and author
of the Equal Rights Amendment, was born in Moorestown, New Jersey. In honor
of this event, a quarter of dues collected (less 50 cents) shall be awarded
to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word pertaining
to any Equal Rights or the pursuit thereof (e.g.
ELECTED, BUSSING, BRALESS, BOYCOTT, SUFFRAGE, EQUALITY, etc.). To qualify
for this contest, you must write a sentence clearly connecting your word
to Equal Rights in some way. Make the connection and you'll have an equal
chance of winning the prize.
•Equal Time (MAN/MEN) Contest - A quarter of
dues collected (less 50 cents) shall be awarded to the player who turns
in the highest scoring play of a word that contains either the word MAN
or the word MEN somewhere within it (e.g. MANHOOD,
WOODSMEN, WOMANLY, UMANGITE,
OMENTAL, MENINGES, etc.).
•Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $2.24
plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who
scores a Triple-Triple
play.
•100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - A sixteenth
of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more
points in a single play
•Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $16.81 plus
a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores
565 or more points in a single game.
•9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $13.38 plus
a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays
a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
