This session marked the seventeenth of NSA Club #565's 2006-2007 season!
We were joined by 4 players who played 10 games in which we scored 7,361
points for a 736.1 (368.05 ind) point-per-game average. Of the 28 recorded
bingos we played, only 1 was a phony that went unchallenged.
Some numbers and whatnot for this session include:
Some interesting bingos:
This was the ninth week of the "Special Letter Bingo Contest"
with "T" being the "Special Letter"
for the week. Click
here for rules and current standings Ed Saunders found the "T"
to his liking and jumped out to a three point lead.
We featured two regular and one repeat contest this week. The repeat contest
was the "A Walk in the Washington Woods" Contest, awarded to the
player who turned in the highest scoring play of a word pertaining to trees,
foreign or domestic, useful or just a pain in the ASH. Judith Whitcomb turned
in the only entry this week: "My backyard in West Virginia is very
BOWERY (44) with beautiful trees everywhere."
This idyllic vision wins Judith the $4.00 prize.
The first regular contest was the Wonders of Nature Contest for the highest scoring play of a word pertaining to timber, mineral deposits, natural curiosities or wonders to be found in our national parks. Judith Whitcomb turned in three entries in two sentences and wins the prize for "Lotsa BREAM (21) in the stream, but even more KOI (33) in the pond." Ed Saunders had ELK (15) and LOON (16) but nothing worth writing a sentence for. It may seem fishy to some, but Judith reels in the $2.50 prize.
The second regular contest was the It's All About "ME"
Contest for the highest scoring play of a word containing the word "ME"
somewhere within it. Ed Saunders wins the bragging rights to this prize,
and $2.50, with MESTESOS
for 61 points
No one cashed in on any of the Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall
have $0.75 added to it. As of this session we have paid out $233.13 in prizes
this season. Click
here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2006-2007 season.
The next session (08 March) shall feature the following contests:
•Special Letter Bingo Contest - Week ten-
This week's "Special Letter" is "C".
Any Bingo beginning with the letter "C"
will earn one point. In addition, one point will be awarded for each additional
occurrence of the "Special Letter" within the word. Click
here for rules and current standings
• The Women We Have known Contest - March 8th
is International Women's Day. Try as I may, I cannot come up with a contest
wide enough in scope to honor this occasion yet narrow enough to run as
a contest. So. . . .a quarter of dues collected (less 50 cents) shall be
awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that
appears in OWL2 and can be used as a woman's first name. To qualify for
this contest, you must list on your score card the name of a recognizable
woman who actually has that first name. (e.g. ABIGAIL Adams, PEARL Buck,
SOJOURNER Truth, ALTHEA Gibson, GLORIA Steinem, MAYA Angelou, MAE Jemison,
RUTH Bader Ginsburg, ANNA Moffo, etc.)
•Time to Toe the LINE Contest -A quarter of
dues collected (less 50 cents) shall be awarded to the player who turns
in the highest scoring play of a word containing the letters L-I-N-E, in
any order, somewhere within it (e.g. AQUILINE, COLINEAR, NIELLOS, ISLANDER,
ELOIGNS, LECITHIN, etc.). You might have to stand in line to win this prize.
•Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $4.30
plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who
scores a Triple-Triple
play.
•100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - $0.75 plus
a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores
100 or more points in a single play
•Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $2.43 plus
a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores
565 or more points in a single game.
•9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $3.18 plus
a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays
a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
