This session marked the thirteenth of NSA Club #565's 2006-2007 season!
We were joined by 6 players who played 15 games in which we scored 11,091 points for a 739.4 (369.7 ind) point-per-game average. Of the 37 recorded bingos we played, none were phonies that went unchallenged.
Some numbers and whatnot for this session include:
Some interesting bingos:
This was the fifth week of the "Special Letter Bingo Contest"
with "Z" being the "Special Letter"
for the week. Click
here for rules and current standings No points were scored this week
and Lewis Saul maintains his one point lead.
The first regular contest was the Melodies of Life Contest, awarded to the
highest scoring play of a word that pertains to any form of music, musical
instruments, or musical venues. Monique Kornell had by far the classiest
entry for this contest with "The soprano was famous for the intricacies
of her ROULADES." (74 pts); but Ed Saunders
had the winner with "The piano player took her REQUEST
and played Misty for her." (108 pts)
The second regular contest was the Never OUT of Options Contest for the highest scoring play of a word containing the letters O, U, and T but NOT in that order. Judith Whitcomb picked up her quota of prize money this week with QUOTA for 42 pts.
Ed and Judith take home $4.00 each for their efforts.
Ed's 108 point play of REQUEST also picks up the $2.24 prize in the 100+ Play Progressive Jackpot.
Meanwhile, back to Lewis Saul's assault on the 9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot
and its $17.11 prize. Of the three possible bingos he could have played,
CONTEMNER and MENTIONER
are relatively common compared to Lewis' choice - NANOMETER
(which he played at position M1 on the board for 74 points). I'd say Lewis
earned his $17.11. A nice find.
No one cashed in on the other two Progressive Jackpots this week and each
shall have $1.12 added to it. As of this session we have paid out $187.91
in prizes this season. Click
here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2006-2007 season.
The next session (08 February) shall feature the following contests:
•Special Letter Bingo Contest - Week Six -
This week's "Special Letter" is "B"
Any Bingo beginning with the letter "B"
will earn one point. In addition, one point will be awarded for each additional
occurrence of the "Special Letter" within the word. Click
here for rules and current standings
•I Was Just Reading About This Contest - On
February 8, 1828, Jules Verne was born in Nantes, France. Author of A
Journey to the Center of the Earth, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under
the Sea, and Around the World in Eighty Days among others;
Verne's depictions of fantastic technological advances, including space
travel, submarines, and television, helped create the genre of science fiction.
In honor of this event, a quarter of dues collected (less 50 cents) shall
be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word
pertaining to any form of literature, books, or writings of any sort (e.g.
SCIENCE, FICTION, BINDINGS, URTEXTS, ROMANCE, REDACTED, PROSODY, HORRORS,
TROCHEE, FOOTNOTE, PREAMBLE, ESSAYIST, BOOKWORM, etc.). To qualify for this
contest, you must write a sentence clearly connecting your word to Literature,
Books, or Writing in some way. Make the connection and you might be reading
about your good fortune in next week's session notes.
•Let's Have "AE" Contest - The vowel
combo "AE" appears in a surprising number of words. It shows up
often in pluralizations and scientific or medical terms. A quarter of dues
collected (less 50 cents) shall be awarded to the player who turns in the
highest scoring play of a word containing the "AE" combo anywhere
within the word. (e.g. AETHERS, ARISTAE, ANAEMIA, ZOOGLEAE, FAERIES, NAETHING,
AERONOMY, SCIAENID, CAEOMAS, MURAENID, HYAENAS, etc.)
•Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $1.12
plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who
scores a Triple-Triple
play.
•100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - A sixteenth
of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more
points in a single play
•Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $20.54 plus

565 or more points in a single game.

9 or more letters in length.
