We had a lot of new faces this session. Visiting us from the Great White North in Victoria, B.C. were Carol Daly and Jim Moore. Also in town from the slightly warmer Las Vegas was Gay Burch. Finally, Michael Rhodes, a local player joined us for the first time. We welcome all and hope to see Michael on a regular basis.
As this was the last session of 2004, we featured two New years contests.
The first was for the most creative play of a word that related to the New
Year in general. We had several entries, including:
-Gay Burch submitted:"Gay SHUFFLED [92 pts]
the cards and dealt blackjack at the New Year's party."
-Nathan Benedict submitted: "HEADING [no pts given]
into the new year."
-Bob Yarmchuk submitted: "This year's calendar becomes OUTDATED
[66 pts] on New Year's Eve!"
- Bob Yarmchuk submitted: "A huge CLEANUP [74 pts]
is required after a New Year's Eve party."
- Jeremiah Ramirez submitted: "On New Year's Eve we had a SLUMBER
[no pts given] party because we were too wasted to drive home."
- Naurlene Canterman submitted: "The clock chimed with a tic-TOCK
[phony, no pts given] on New Year's, bringing in 2005!"
- Judith Whitcomb submitted: "On New Year's Day we CHARTED
[82 pts] a new course."
- Judith Whitcomb submitted: "My husband FRITTERS [62
pts] away his time watching football on New Year's."
Joshua Kassel judged all the entries, which were submitted to him anonymously.
Of them, he selected Bob Yarmchuk's OUTDATED as the winner. The second contest
was for the highest-scorig play containing the tiles N-E-W or Y-E-A-R, played
in any order. Only two folks submitted entries, and Monique Kornell takes
the prize with a 22 point play of NEW. Both Bob and Monique
take home $7.00 prizes.
This session also featured the letter D in the ongoing Alphabet Bingo Contest in which all bingos starting with an "D" scored a point. Three folks scored in this contest, and Nathan Benedict takes the lead. Click here for Alphabet Bingo standings and rules!
The Club #565 Progressive Jackpot for any game of 565 or more points was scooped up by Nathan Benedict for turning in a 574 point game. He takes home $5.42. The other three progressive jackpots shall each have $1.87 added to them. As of this session, we have payed out $174.67 in prizes for the 2004-2005 season. Click here for a complete list of winners.
The next session (06 January) shall feature the following contests:
- "RE-play Contest" - A quarter of dues collected shall
be awarded to the player who makes the highest-scoring play of a word that
begins with RE- but can stand alone as a word without it (e.g., RETURNS, REDOES,
REENGAGE, etc.).
- IN and OUT contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be
awarded to the player who makes the highest-scoring play beginning with IN
or OUT (e.g., INCLUDE, OUTDONE, etc.)
