This was the 39th session of the 2004 - 2005 Season of National Scrabble Association Club #565!
We were joined by a 8 players, who played a total of 22 games in which we scored 16,151 points for a 7234.1 point-per-game average. Of the 54 recorded bingos we played, 6 were phonies that went unchallenged.
Some numbers and whatnot for this session include:
High Game - 511 points by Ed Saunders
Low Win - 330 points by Naurlene Canterman
High Loss - 454 points by Lewis Saul (Opponent at 461)
Bingo King - Ed Saunders for averaging 2.167 bingos per game
Recounting Counts - Josh Kassel notes he lost a game by 2 points but decided to do a recount. In the recount, he found an error where he carried a nonexistent "1" on his scoresheet. Aparently his opponent glossed over that as well. The game turned into an 8 point win. Remember, either player can request a recount (click here for rule).
Nice Nine Find - Ed Saunders had a rack of "EIORTT?" and only one bingo line on the board, which was to extend "AD" horizontally
from bottom left corner of the board through TWS in bottom center of board. Ed found (and bingoed out with) ADROITEST for 80 points and a 511 game.
Some interesting bingos:
- ADJURED \v. Solemnly commanded (played by Ed Saunders)
- NARDINE \adj. Like a fragarant ointment (played by Ed Saunders)
- PANDIES \v. Punishes by striking one in the hand (played by Joshua Kassel)
- SIGNORI \n pl. Italian titles of courtesy for a men (also SIGNORS) (played by Michael Rhodes)
- UNHAIRS \v. Removes the hair from (played by Naurlene Canterman)
This session featured two contests. The first was the "Get That Garbage OFF The Board " Contest for
the player who successfully challenged his or her opponent's highest-scoring attempted play of a phony word. We had only two entries for this contest:
Ed Saunders challenged FLUNKIER* which would have been worth 66 points
Naurlene Canterman challenged AVIS* which would have been worth 21 points
The second contest of the evening was for the High Loss of the evening, which Lewis Saul picked up with a (probably very frustrating frustrating) 454 point loss to his opponent's 461 points)
Ed and Lewis take home $6.00 prizes.
Two of the four progressive jackpots were won this session. As Mentioned above, Ed won the 9+ Bingo contest with an 870-point play of ADROITEST and takes home $13.28. Naurlene Canterman picked up $3.18 for the 100+ Play Jackpot with a 106 point play of CRAMPIER* -- a Double-Double and a phony no less! The other two jackpots shall each have $1.50 added to them. As of this session, we have payed out $805.40 in prizes for the 2004-2005 season. Click here for a complete list of winners.
The next session (11 August) shall feature the following contests:
- "PRO or CON-test" - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who plays the highest scoring play of a word beginning with PRO- or CON- (e.g., PROTEST, CONTOUR, etc.)
- High Win Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest winning score.
- Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $5.99 plus an eighth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
