This was the fourth session of the 2004 - 2005 Season of National Scrabble Association Club #565!
We were joined by 14 players who played a total of 37 games in which we scored 27,008 points for a 729.9 point-per-game average. Of the 90 bingos we played, 7 were phonies that went unchallenged.
Some numbers and whatnot for this session include:
High Game - 554 points by Jessie Jones (The highest game of the season)
Low Win - 280 points by Jeremiah Ramirez
High Loss - 419 points by Bob Yarmchuk
Bingo King - Jessie Jones for averaging 2 bingos-per-game
Some interesting bingos:
- ANTISAG \adj. designed to prevent sagging (played by Robert Whitcomb)
- DOURINES \n pl. Diseases of horses (played by Judith Whitcomb)
- MILLINER \n. A maker or seller of women's hats (played by Judith Whitcomb)
- RENTIERS \n pl. Ones who receive a fixed income (played by Robert Whitcomb)
- TORULAS \n pl. Types of fungi (played by Monique Kornell)
- VIRIDIAN \n. A bluish-green pgment (played by Jessie Jones)
The first contest for this session was for the Low Win, which Jeremiah Ramirez picked up with a 280 point win over her opponent's 279. The next contest was the "'I Owe yoU A' Contest " contest for the highest play that ended with I, O, U, or A. The winning word for this contest was WHOA, which was played by Naurlene Canterman for 58 points and then bested by Daniel Forrest who scored 76 points from it. Both Dan and Jeremiah take home $9.75.
Of the four progressive jackpots, only one was scooped up. Bob Yarmchuck won $3.93 in the 100+ Play Progressive Jackpot by laying down a 113-point play of HANCOCK* -- a phony word that went unchallenged. The other three progressive jackpots were won, and each shall each have $2.43 added to them. As of this session, we have payed out $65.23 in prizes for the 2004-2005 season. Click here for a complete list of winners.
Finally, the next session shall feature the beginning of a progressive contest that will take place over the course of 26 sessions. Called Alphabet Bingo, each session shall feature an Alphabet Bingo Letter. Every bingo one plays that begins with one of the Alphabet Bingos will earn a point. Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 scoring players at the end of the contest. Click here for rules.
The next session (9 December) shall feature the following contests:
- High Loss - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player with the highest losing score
- "Blank Expression" Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who makes the highest-scoring play that contains one or both of the blank tiles. To qualify for this contest, you must play the actual blank tile(s); extending a previously-played word that contains a blank does not count. Entries must include the blank's designation and the total points scored for the play.
Alphabet Bingo Contest - The Alphabet Bingo Letter for this session is A. Each bingo beginning with A scores one point (click here for standings and rules)
- Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $7.30 plus an eighth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
- 100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - $1.50 plus an eighth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
- Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $12.36 plus an eighth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
