This was the 42nd session of the 2004 - 2005 Season of National Scrabble Association Club #565!
We were joined by 6 players, who played a total of 17 games in which we scored 12,581 points for a 740 point-per-game average. Of the 33 recorded bingos we played, not a single was a phony.
Some numbers and whatnot for this session include:
High Game - 516 points by Naurlene Canterman
Low Win - 338 points by Naurlene Canterman
High Loss - 410 points by Naurlene Canterman (Opponent at 490)
Bingo King - Ed Saunders for averaging 1.833 bingos per game
Deja Bingo: Ed Saunders and Rex Kremer both managed to play the same bingo this session: AERATION
Payoff for the Tile Gods: Ed Saunders notes, "I had KHANATE on my rack with two places to play it. Had to settle for 76 points after Lewis blocked the bottom center TWS (where I could have put the K on the DLS and pulled 111 points out of the play. . . .Oh, Well. . . .). Lewis challenged KHANATE and lost (allowing me to play ABYE to the bottom right TWS for 41 points) and followed that by exchanging tiles (allowing me to bingo with PREDATES for 74 more points). That gave me a three-play run of 191 unanswered points taking me from a 6 point deficit at 260-266 to a 185 point lead at 451-266. The Tile Gods were thanked and burnt "Qs" and "Is" were ceremoniously offered
Some interesting bingos:
- ADENINE \n. An alkaloid (played by Karen Lundeen)
- GASTERS \n pl. The
enlarged parts of the abdomen in some insects
(variant of SILIQUES) (played by Ed Saunders)
- KHANATE \n. The domain of a khan

- RADIALE \n pl. Bones of the carpus (played by Lewis Saul)

Ed Saunders entered his 18 point play DEITY but was bested by Karen Lundeen's play HEINIE for 30. The second contest of the evening was the "High Double" for the highest scoring play that used a Double Word Score tile. Ed Saunders took this with FRONTER for 82, beating out Rex Kremer's BLASTED for 78, Naurlene canterman's REVIEW for 40, and Monique Kornell's JIVER for 38. Karen and Ed take home $4.00 prizes.
