+ Session NotesThis was our lucky 13th session of the season. We were joined by 14 players who played 34 games. We scored a total of 25,811 points for a 759.1 points-per-game average. We played 97 bingos this session. Of those bingos, 7 were phonies that went unchallenged. We welcomed Tina Udelson, a player from Los Angeles, who dropped in for the evening. She is in town for the Phoenix tournament (not as a player, alas), and we were happy to have her join us. Dropping in like a ray of sunshine to our humble club was our old pal Gary Wagman, who has been in Costa Rica for the past several months. Gary reports that he has purchased several acres in that country and has his eyes set next on building a home and learning Spanish. Gary will make Costa Rica his home and return to Tucson on occasion. He will be in town at next week's session, so do drop in and say hello! Ed Saunders was on fire this evening. He turned in a perfect 5-0 scorecard as well as wore the Bingo King crown by playing 12 bingos. Josh Kassel notes that he played his fastest game ever, using only 6:09 on his clock. After being called "Fairest of the air" last week for playing zero phony bingos in the entire season, Karen Lundeen shows us she has a wicked side after all by playing 2 out of 2 phony bingos. Finally, despite being in a country where Spanish is the primary language, Gary Wagman played well -- breaking the 1000 mark in his club rating. The session featured two contests: High Loss and The Sweetheart Contest for the highest-scoring word inspired by Valentine's Day. The first contest was picked up by our visiting player, Tina, who lost a game to Ed Saunders in an impressive 410-458 match. There is a silver lining to the loss. The second contest goes to Josh Kassel for two Valentine's Day plays of DEARIES (ones to whom you give Valentine's cards) and FAERIES (little cupids), both for 82 points. Tina and Josh take home $9.25. This was the last session that featured the Double Bingo Contest.
Although Ed Saunders was in the lead for several weeks, Josh Kassel was able
to come from behind by scoring 3 points to win. The final standings are: In the jackpot category, ed Saunders nailed a Triple-Triple for the second week in a row by playing a 131-point play of REVALUED. As he cleaned out the Triple-Triple Jackpot last week, he only picks up $2.44, but that's better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. The other three jackpots will all have $2.44 added to them. Next Session (19 February) will feature the following contests: + Bingos by PlayerBelow are the bingos played during the 12 February 2004 session at National Scrabble Association Club #565.
