+ Session NotesThis was our 20th session of the season. We were joined by 9 players who played a total of 22 games in which we scored a total of 16,214 points for a 737.0 points-per-game average. We played 45 bingos this session. Of those bingos, 6 were phonies that went unchallenged -- a higher than usual number of phonies, which was appropriate for April Fool's Day. As of this session, we have paid out $501.56 in prizes during the 2003-2004 season; click here for the list of winners! Lewis Saul was unstoppable and distinguished himself as the evening's top player by turning in a 5-0 +603 scorecard. Although only playing one game, Jake Jacobs was the bingo king by turning in three bingos during it. The play of the night goes to Lewis Saul for playing WHACK, a five-letter word that netted him an impressive 81 points; click here for a diagram of the play! The evening's contests were on an April Fool's Day theme. The first was for the highest-scoring phony word. We saw six phonies, but Naurlene Canterman's 84-point phony of ODORISE* took the cake. The second contest was for the highest-scoring play that of a word that related to April Fool's Day. The winner was Daniel Forrest with a 95-point bingo of UNWARILY (as in "He UNWARILY fell for the prank"). This was also Dan's highest recorded play. Both Naurlene and Dan pick up prizes of $5.75. Congrats! Two folks nailed jackpot prizes. The first was Ed Saunders, who played a 149-point Triple-Triple of WATTAGES, his third Triple-Triple play this season. He takes home the $6.19 Triple-Triple Jackpot, and that will roll over to zero again. Joshua Kassel finally nailed the "Deja Bingo" Jackpot by playing the same bingo twice in one session. He played ANESTRI in his 4th game, and then played it again in his 6th game. Ironically, he also played RETAINS, its anagram, in his 3rd game. Josh takes home a jackpot of $55.98. We will be replacing the "Deja Bingo" Jackpot with a new progressive prize starting next session: The 100+ Play Jackpot. Finally, despite being high-probability letters, only two folks scored points in the AB to YZ Bingo Jackpot by playing bingos starting with M or N. Click here for full standings.Naurlene
Canterman informs us that Marcia Golombik, a longtime friend and Scrabble
player at the Villa Serenas retirement community, has passed away. As is
